Professor Buzzkill Posted August 20, 2016 #3 Share Posted August 20, 2016 I know plenty of Filipinos and Filipinas and all of them support this man and his ideas. there are corrupt elements in the Senate and military that are running the drugs and making millions. The people are angry at the corruption. Yet this "Butcher" of a president drives a motorbike to work and visits restaurants without the need of security. Unheard off for a president in a country that has had plenty of assassinations.

Takes alot of balls to ditch a security detail in a country like the Philippines. I bet he's carrying a pistol and prepared to use it. You quoted the wrong quote. ...anyway the only un-agreeable part about living in your dystopic hell would be living next to such drug dealers, rapist and gangster scum. I bet you those that have suffered at their hands won't shed a tear for Duterte's handy work. I haven't read one argument in this thread yet that lays a case for Duterte continuing to govern the Philippines as his predecessors have done. If this is what it takes so people can live in peace and go about their way then so be it. btw... its the auto correct feature that messed up the spelling of Duterte.

NiteMarcher Posted August 21, 2016 #13 Share Posted August 21, 2016 (edited) In the PI you either have or you don't! Even when Filipino's of US citizenship venture back home to visit relatives or whatever, they too, depending upon the area they're from, also need to be careful. I knew someone who went back to visit his part of the PI, and had land there. His wife and child made it back, but he unfortunately didn't make it home because he was killed (shot). I know some that will even hire security to protect them while visiting the PI. Former Pres. Marcos himself ruled with an iron fist, unfortunately the only one he couldn't control was Imelda and her compulsion for shoes. Vigilantism is not part of governing. ::facepalm::
NiteMarcher Posted August 21, 2016 #16 Share Posted August 21, 2016 (edited) Every country world wide has it's murderers and vigilantes, with the majority walking around in suits. Governing for the people when out the window many moons ago, leaving the suits of mighty corporate entities to take hold of countries by stripping them of their valuable natural resources and whatever sovereignty they have left. Control is the keyword of the day, everything else just really doesn't matter anymore when it comes down to the bottom line of profits for the elite few. Their is an agenda when it comes to politics and governing, and it surely isn't in the hands of the people of today. I had no idea how bad it had gotten there. While it sounds horrific to encourage citizens to execute drug dealers I can understand the desire to rid themselves of such criminals who prey on the youth. The obvious problem is that it will get completely out of control, if it hasn't already. They'll kill all the known dealers then start killing users. After that I can see it being like an informal Salem witch hunt. People will be dying after just being accused of a drug offense.

I saw a news item the other day and it was saying that not just drug dealers were being killed but drug users as well - and that the killing spree free for all - was being used to settle old scores that might not even have anything to do with drugs - .
Varelse Posted August 27, 2016 #21 Share Posted August 27, 2016 How does this lynch mob operate or justify their punishments? Is there a gang of neighborhood volunteer do-gooders working with the local police to target previously convicted street dealers who keep dealing or is it going after corrupt officials, banks and those running the syndicates? Or is it like a no holds barred - wild west where if one person knew someone they wanted dead kept about a half pound of weed in the freezer he could shoot the heavy toker, point to the weed and no one would care?
