'That music is scary!' Watch AI ROBOTS react to horror movies

Two robots were shown the trailer for 'Morgan' to gauge their reactions
Edi vocalized its 'thoughts' with phrases like 'That is definitely scary'
FACE, although silent, used its flexible 'skin' to make facial expressions
Both robots are designed to advance human/machine interactions

  • If Kurzweil is even 25% accurate in his predictions about the singularity then we and machines will be one and the same in 100 years.  I'm glad I won't be here if that's the case.  If I understand his concepts it seems people will have the option of living in a virtual world of their choice.  It would be interesting to see how such options would change human beings over time.  I suspect that eventually people would crave absolutely non virtual, "real" interaction instead.  Just a guess though.

Were they programmed to react that way? How does an AI differentiate "Horror" from "Slapstick Comedy"?....

AI ROBOTS react to horror movies....

...by learning how to kill from them?

Oh, no, wait, that's just silly.  Or is it?

Show them Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

The Morgan trailer wasn't even very scary. The horror was implied, not visible. Does this mean the robots understood that the horror was implied?

A lot of people would just love to be paying the virtual mortgage, rather than the real one.

I know I can't.

Like Taun said, they're robots so they are programmed to react a certain way to certain stimuli.

How are we supposed to know if the robots reactions are genuine based on their observations or just producing expected, yet programmed, sets of expressions to appease our expectations?

Not convinced it is genuine at all.

Horror has cheesy music, "jump frights", gore and stupid teenagers that stand and scream instead of running away... Slapstick comedy has Harold Lloyd, Buster Keaton and the Three Stooges...

Three Stooges...

They are masters in their own right.  We should build more monuments to them.
