Was infamous pirate Blackbeard a good guy ?

He was good at putting wax in his bread, drinking gun powder and swimming around a ship when he had no head.

Ergo he was a good guy.

Plus perception is what we make of it, therefore we have things like the parody of pirates in Stardust

I bet his friends thought he was just peachie.  Pirate captains who  didn't treat the crew well, usually get tossed overboard.  At least that is what happens now a days.   Crazy things you learn living in Florida. Arr...

The authorities make things up about people to tarnish their image just so they can "legitimize efforts to bring him to justice."?  Say it aint so.

Blackbeard appears to be good at rapping.  Especially if it's some sort of battle rap, epic, about history.

It's fashionable nowadays to say that someone wasn't bad after all, they were just "misunderstood."

For those who want more than a few sentences about the topic, here is Woodward's article http://www.smithsonianmag.com/history/last-days-blackbeard-180949440/

There is so much misinformation about Blackbeard.

Most, if not all, of the misinformation about Blackbeard is due to a man named Nathaniel Mist, using the pseudonym Charles Johnson to write the book "A General History of the Robberies and Murders of the Most Notorious Pyrates"

This book is full of fiction and cannot be relied on as an accurate source.

Most of all written books, blogs and news stories about Blackbeared are based on fiction, myths and folklore.

Most of what is written in the OP's link is fiction.

However one piece of empirical evidence we do have is that the name Blackbeard is most likely the alias of Edward Thatch.

"Thou mentons [the] pyrating trade wth you, from the begining of this Mo[nth] untill wthin this Week one Cap[tai]n Tatch all[ia]s Bla[ck]beard in a Sloope whch they call [the] Revengers Revenge Aboute 130 Men, 12 or 14 Guns having layne of or Capes & taken six or seven Vessells Inw[ar]d & outw[ar]d bound" - Jonathan Dickinson to Joshua Crosby, Oct 23, 1717
