Half of the 2500 calls to Papua New Guinea's first domestic violence hotline have been from men seeking help to change their abusive behaviour.

The hotline has just clocked up a year in operation and has delivered more than 1600 counselling sessions, ChildFund, which supports the project, said in a statement.

that is encouraging , people reaching out for help to become better people. generational behaviours and thinking can be changed. we just need to brainwash the world , wash the brains of those who are stuck in generational behaviour and thinking that is violent and non accepting x

From what I understand, a corrupt Government barely letting the country tick along is ignoring the resources that PNG can provide to the world. This is actually no secret, Ross Kemp went in speaking to the more violent groups (that man has balls an elephant could not carry) All aid is sequestered by corrupt forces who live the high life whilst 99% of the country resides in war zones of poverty.

According to the direct interviews, those men want, and need work. They need a purpose, a way to support their families, basically, a life. I have seen them say they hate their lives, but see no other choice. If they do not resort to crime, they starve and die. There is not enough infrastructure to support the growing population. That pressure and stress only magnifies the unrest. People turn to superstition, murder, anything to inch ahead. Desperation, as if refugees in their own country.

Admirable that this system is bringing the plight to light, people need to know what a wasted resource PNG is. It has great potential for resources mining, tourism and local industry. It is held back by corruption, lack of both funds and experience and skills. It is crying out for the refugees that the rest of the world keeps handballing to each other, there is a fledgling opportunity for a great society there, just left going begging. The First World nations need to help PNG get up on it's feet, the old teach a man to fish principle. Otherwise, this is not going to get better on it's own. If we can all chuck into the Middle Eastern Crisis, I am sure we could spare some expertise for PNG.

Hell of a scary place it is too.
