Trump discusses border wall with Mexico, sidesteps payment issue.

Donald Trump told Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto on Wednesday that the United States has the right to build a border wall to halt illegal immigration, but the Republican presidential candidate did not bring up his signature demand that Mexico pay for it. In an unexpected trip to a country that he has vilified for causing illegal immigration and drug smuggling into the United States, Trump held talks with the Mexican leader at his Los Pinos residence for about an hour.

So now Mexico is contradicting Trump on paying for the border wall.

Donald Trump told Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto on Wednesday he would build a border wall to keep illegal migrants out if he wins the U.S. presidency, but Pena Nieto held fast to his position that Mexico would not pay for it.

Contradicting Trump's assertion that the pair did not discuss who would pay for his proposed wall, Pena Nieto said after the departure of the Republican presidential candidate that he told him during their private meeting in Mexico City that his government would not pick up the bill.

When they were standing 5 feet apart and Trump made that claim, Nieto had every chance to correct him.

After the meeting Nieto was getting hammered and made that up to make him look better to his own country.

On any other day I would have loved it if they came to blows right there and then on the stage ... but things being as they are today that would have left corpses all over the place as surely guns would have been involved one way or another ...

~ ahhh well ...

Clinton was also invited but didn't want to go so she calls Trumps visit a photo op. Which I guess means she won't go.

Clinton will not put herself in any situation her people don't have complete control over. She hasn't had an actual press conference in like 9/10 months. It's to her benefit to just hold tight for the next two months.

She's afraid of the questions that will be asked.  Might bring on a seizure or she will zone out.

The Trumpo could have had an opportunity to build, well, bridges rather than walls, say that he was being metaphorical or rhetorical or something, but he still clings to this wondrously impractical idea? I'm not sure whether that's integrity and sticking to his principlies or mere delusion. Either way he's still immeasurably more fun than the robot Clinton, that's for sure.

UPDATE: Trump returns to hardline position on illegal immigration.

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump vowed on Wednesday that anyone who is in the United States illegally would be subject to deportation if he is elected, sticking with his hardline position after flirting with a softer approach.

In a major speech in the border state of Arizona, Trump took a dim view of the 11 million people who crossed into the United States illegally, a week after saying many were "great people" who had lived in the country for years and contributed to American society. He said all people in the United States illegally would have "only one route" to gain legal status if Trump were to win the Nov. 8 presidential election: "To return home and apply for re-entry."

"Our message to the world will be this: You cannot obtain legal status or become a citizen of the United States by illegally entering our country," Trump said. "People will know you can't just smuggle in, hunker down and wait to be legalized," he said. "Those days are over."

I can understand Trump saying about deporting the illegal immigrants, and earlier he said criminal illegals would be first (wish our government would be a bit more robust on this front) and I can understand him wanting to build a wall = but asking the Mexicans to pay for it? hmm....bit much there.

Reckon if the Americans want to build a wall on their side of the fence, then they should be paying for it = maybe Trump will ask some of the legal Mexican immigrants who are looking for work, to build it.

I agree. It's the right and only way to do it. I wouldn't go so far as to ban Muslims from specific countries, but would insist that the same stringent entry requirements be applied to everyone entering the country and that the process in place be reviewed and altered to permit enhanced scrutiny if necessary.

Yes, we should pay for the wall. There's no excuse for us not to. Throwing that into the mix will not only complicate matters, it will take away from the more important issues.

what is so embarrassing about wanting your borders to be secure? it would be embarrassing if we do not. Obama's bowing and apologizing embarrassed us more than anything trump said.

Don't hire them.  Use the ones being picked up to deport.  While they are waiting for their day in court, they can spend it doing something constructive.
