From prairie to the White House: Inside a Tribe's quest to stop a pipeline.

Three days after guard dogs attacked Native Americans protesting an oil pipeline project in North Dakota in early September, an unprecedented event took place at the White House. Brian Cladoosby, president of the National Congress of American Indians, which represents more than 500 tribes, spoke to nearly a dozen of President Barack Obama's Cabinet-level advisers at a September 6 meeting of the White House's three-year-old Native American Affairs Council.

It was the first time a tribal leader addressed a session of the council, and Cladoosby was invited in his role as the Indian Congress’ leader.

Its not that the hallowed hall of power knows it not , it is because they care not ...

Quote

Quote Investigator: The earliest instance located by QI was in a collection of essays published in 1972 titled “Who is the Chairman of This Meeting?” A chapter called “Conversations with North American Indians” contained comments made by Alanis Obomsawin who was described as “an Abenaki from the Odanak reserve, seventy odd miles northeast of Montreal.” (The book uses the spelling Obomosawin.) Obomsawin employed a version of the saying while speaking with the chapter author Ted Poole. [AOTP]:

Canada, the most affluent of countries, operates on a depletion economy which leaves destruction in its wake. Your people are driven by a terrible sense of deficiency. When the last tree is cut, the last fish is caught, and the last river is polluted; when to breathe the air is sickening, you will realize, too late, that wealth is not in bank accounts and that you can’t eat money.

In later years Obomsawin became famous as an award-winning documentary filmmaker based in Canada.

Elizabeth Warren and Bernie were speaking up for their cause and the new Our Revolution is supporting them. I was impressed when the tribes' leader got to speak at the UN, since it recognizes the rights of indigenous people to have their own lands and protection  of  their resources and  sacred sights. Resources means water in this case but would include uranium mining for other tribes.

Would not doubt the left funds people to turn legitimate protests into something else...When the Indians start complaining about white liberals mooching off the tribes, and creating a mockery of the situation- there is something really wrong going on. ..."Complaints Grow Over Whites Turning Dakota Access Protest Into Hippie Festival" Washington Times- Richardson

http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2016/nov/28/complaints-whites-co-opting-dakota-access-protest/

Of course, everyone associated with the protest drove their cars/trucks there...People need to realize, there are very strict rules and fines that serve to protect and punish here...How is kingdom of saud /etc oil better?...People die for that blood oil, and there is no way they have as stringent law regarding the environment...they treat their immigrant workforce as slaves.

Oil is not going anywhere for the next 20-30 years, unless there is some amazing discovery. Time to decide- our oil or blood/religion/terror/war oil...

The protests aren't about nature, rather about the Natives getting as much money for themselves as possible. Seems more likely that - tribes are upset about the libs wanting to stop pipelines, rather than fighting for maximum dollars to the tribes.

I think you are wrong about this one. I don't answer for white liberals, but the Lakota people are not out for money.  If you recall, the route of the pipeline was going through Bismark. The folks of Bismark didn't want it there because  they knew eventually it would leak. The Lakota are trying to protect their home environment, and maybe they are just a little tired of equal justice not  being so equal. If you want to help those people, write letters from home pray for them if that is something you do.  Bear in mind how cold it is going to get very soon.  The people in the camp will have to feed and care for others.  It is a burden they  will have to bear. Indians are glad for support and encouragement, but they don't need us coming in and taking over their stand.

Money.  How much is the price for your heritage, your dignity, and your children's future?

‘Shoot at Us First’: Veterans Form Literal ‘Human Shield’ to Protect Standing Rock Protesters from Cops

We are sworn to uphold and protect the United States Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic. And they’re saying listen, if you wanna burn the United States Constitution, you have to go through us. It’s quite a brave and amazing act that’s never happened in the history of the United States, that two thousand veterans just said you know what? Shoot at us first.”

The mainstream media also showed up yesterday while the FAA placed  a temporary flight restriction for all aircraft except law enforcement and 'approved media'.

Construction of Dakota Access Pipeline to be re-routed

At least for today the environment and the people have won.

Notice how despite months of protests and centuries of treaties, the reason it's changed is because the army doesn't want it?

I wouldn't mind pipelines so much if they would just take care of them.  I don't trust them to do that.

I'm all for protesting but they shouldn't have been slaughtering people's livestock and attacking people.

I imagine the 2k veterans who showed up and told the cops to shoot them first probably has something to do with the army corps' decision. LOL

Oil Company knows Trump is invested so theyre just biding their time but still going to follow original plan.

“As stated all along, ETP and SXL are fully committed to ensuring that this vital project is brought to completion and fully expect to complete construction of the pipeline without any additional rerouting in and around Lake Oahe. Nothing this Administration has done today changes that in any way.”

The above wasnt hype. Trump stands to make money off the pipeline Trump Supports Dakota Access Pipeline. Did We Mention He’s Invested In It?

In May 2015, according to campaign disclosure reports, Trump owned between $500,000 and $1 million worth of shares of Energy Transfer Partners, the pipeline’s lead developer, but had less than $50,000 invested when he sold off the remainder of his shares this summer, according to The Washington Post.

As of last May, Trump had at least $100,000 invested in Phillips 66, which owns a quarter of the oil line, according to the AP.

There was mutual support, as Energy Transfer Partners CEO Kelcy Warren had donated $100,000 to a committee supporting Trump’s election.

We have to support the rights of given in the treaty. If we don't large corporations run by greed will trample on any of our freedoms as well. They are ruthless and don't care about anything but profit.

Trump sells his stake in Dakota Access Pipeline developer,

Donald Trump has sold his entire stake in Energy Transfer Partners (ETP), the company overseeing construction of the controversial Dakota Access Pipeline, a Trump spokeswoman told NBC News.

Trump's shares of the company created a possible conflict of interest for the president-elect, as his administration may determine the project's fate amid ongoing protests from Native Americans and climate activists. Trump has supported the 1,172-mile pipeline and broader efforts to produce more fossil fuels in the United States.

Pretty sure that one would have kept him from taking office , smart move. Now what about his stocks in the other companies involved in the pipeline (like phillips 66) ? Does he sell them or was this just smart politicking?
