oldrover Posted October 21, 2016 #28 Share Posted October 21, 2016 (edited) I think it'd be stuffy. Uncomfortably stuffy, and you don't like to open the window because the damned soul next to the window looks like they might say something if you did. And there'd be awkwardness. For eternity. So the lost would just sit there, not really knowing what to do, except fiddle with their collars and politely mutter, 'close isn't it, do you find it close?' The latter in particular gets very theologically soaring and not too much more. Beatific vision and all that.

Saw the film last week - OK, but story line so predictable. as to the fires of hell - nerve endings die in a few seconds when skin exposed to flames/extreme heat so pain is no longer felt. For eternal burning to have any real punishment effect we would have to keep burning just at the surface skin level and no deeper! ETA to correct silly spelling mistake. I only watched the first one because Ron Howard behind it and Tom in the lead, never read any of the books, actually I was already familiar with the plot from sources at art school and other titles so ... yeah ... I blamed Tom Hanks ... he did a fine job giving Sir Ian a shout out too ... ~

Speaking as one who has been baptized in the River of Lost Souls (My canoe capsized when I was shooting rapids on the Animas River in southwest Colorado, also known as Rio de las Animas Perdidas en Purgatorio.): there are some places (like south Texas) that are just too hot for hell. Doug Too true. Going from the Southwest desert into Texas and the South is like descending into a humid furnace...with mosquitos to boot. I mean, it's hot during the day but cools down at night in the desert. No such luck as one heads east.
