Lindner Posted October 27, 2016 #1 Share Posted October 27, 2016 My one year old has been seeing a spiritual being, it does weird me out at times . He will watch it, point at it and call it what sounds like "bee or bwee". I'm curious if anyone is familiar with spirits names so I can figure out whom my child is interacting with. Your first " concern " ( not really a concern, this is normal, but still ) is to have his or her eyes checked. You should really research why babies and toddlers do what they do, and get the facts.....Not the fiction / fantasy. Over the last decade, a series of studies out of the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig, Germany, have made a very good argument for marveling at your pointing infant. A group of psychologists there have documented that infants, beginning at around 1 year of age, point and react to other people pointing in remarkably sophisticated ways. Babies point to refer to events in the past and the future. They point to refer to things that are no longer there. One? did you say ONE year old? yes, seems you did. Clearly you are into spirits, nothing wrong with that, but when you have a one year old their learning of their new world and their education towards a healthy mind is your FIRST priority, not attributing their behavior with spirits. From the same link as Sakari`s: Maybe he was just pointing for his own sake; maybe it had nothing to do with anyone else. http://www.slate.com/blogs/how_babies_work/2013/03/26/research_on_babies_and_pointing_reveals_the_action_s_importance.html
Lindner Posted October 27, 2016 Author #6 Share Posted October 27, 2016 Thank you guys for educating me. I come from a really weird background where the thought is that the supernatural is a constantly affecting our reality, it is really hard for me to step away from this mindset I was raised within. After I had mentioned my child doing those things (which honestly I initially didn't think of as other spirt being interactions), I had several family members start talking about spirits/demons etc, and that completely overtook my rational thought processes. It's really nice to have rational people tell me when I'm on the wrong track and am being a complete dunce/ignoramus.

Actually, I just gained a huge amount of respect for you ! If you only new how many people come on here, and when they receive information like you did, they go on a terror and call us evil skeptics, etc. On occasion, ( like now ) some people come here and actually want help, or advice. You did that, and you took the advice and read it yourself. You did not call us evil, stupid, skeptics, and tell us we just " do not believe ". I thank you for that, and it shows your maturity, and intelligence. So, thank you for listening, and taking the advice. You have nothing to worry about as you know. You have a normal, healthy baby, doing his or her baby things. ( as you know now ). I wish him / her a long healthy life. Now, go educate your family members
Keel M. Posted October 27, 2016 #8 Share Posted October 27, 2016 Thanks for the fascinating read @freetoroam!!! I will have to tuck it away for later reference. What's in that article makes complete sense.

I guess I was letting past history sway my perception . My child intently focuses on what appears to be nothing , or their eyes move as if watching something , and then will point and say "bee!", oftentimes their pointing finger would move along with wherever their eyes were tracking . This actually started happening at 9 months old. I've heard them saying "bee" after they've been in bed a few hours . I initially thought they were talking about lights and shadows (my child has loved looking at different lights since a few weeks old) , but it occurs so often that I no longer am sure what it is anymore . Nothing appears to be wrong with them visually , but I guess , from information from other posters, my child is trying to communicate an idea to me. My child is actually intellegent linguisticly, they already know several words and often if they're pointing at something and I say the name of it, they'll repeat the world sounds . Since your child is 1, he or she or them/they (as you put it), will look at things that may not necessarily be there. Also since the 1 year old has not fully developed their muscles, they tend to sway a little, be it the head or arms. So pointing at a random spot, can seem like the child is tracking something that is not there. Your 1 year old could be very vocal, but not say an actual word yet, so bee could mean mum?!! Almost every baby are attracted to lights, this is just normal. All babies are intelligent, more intelligent than a person might believe, unless they have a condition (god bless). And why you keep mentioning them and they, do you have more than one child? In my opinion, There is nothing wrong with your child, so let the child be.

I hope you enjoy your role as a parent and although your family members have been encouraging the thoughts of spirits and demons onto you, your child needs love, a good education and security, when they grow up they can decide if they wish to believe in demons and spirits themselves, but IMO it is not healthy to enforce this belief on any child. There is so much to teach children about reality and our natural world, once you go down that route, you should not have time to fill their minds with demons and the stuff nightmares are made off. We have many come on here telling us about their weird dreams about demons and fictional beings, this has a lot to do with what they have been preached to by their family or what they have been allowed to watch without a guidance as to what is real and what is fictional. Do not let this happen to your child. Take care and look after our little one...physically and equally as important - mentally.

Whatever beliefs some of your family members may have, you seem to be very honest with yourself. That's a big thing, and not every kid gets that in a parent. I think that's the basis of a parent/child relationship that'll stand your child in good stead.
Lindner Posted October 28, 2016 Author #13 Share Posted October 28, 2016 Thank you all for your imput. Despite that I may be personally be swayed by perceptions of others along with the influence of my upbringing , I try to be careful to not project that onto my child, as in while I may have these thoughts and ideas, I don't communicate these to him or let my actions change on their account. If I do act on something, I want to be as informed as possible, as my child is very watchful and absorbing everything like a sponge. I personally know how difficult that can make things when you aquire beliefs / superstions from a parent . My child is pretty advanced physically and mentally , to the point where I am surprised by it. His movement is very sturdy and he walks, climbs and figures things out on a physical level (eg stacking items to climb them to reach something he desires ). His vocabulary also is fairly developed for a 13 month old, it includes: mama, daddy, duck, quack, banana, eat, tree. He can sing segments of the alphabet, he has phrases he uses frequently "what is that" "oh no" "this here" "thank you". Given this, that's what caused me to allow myself to be influenced by others in regards to his behavior with pointing and saying "bwee" It can be disconcerting to have your normally chattering child to be silent, stare at something, before he looks at me and points to whatever it is and repeatedly says "bwee" I'm normally able to figure out what he's trying to say or draw my attention to, but I am stumped by this one. I am very relieved to let go of the idea of something otherworldly and return to my previous notion that it's something developmental because you guys provided me with knowledge I didn't have before.
