I'm confused by the math in several of these articles. The earth is slowing by 1.8 ms per century, which would take about 6.5 million years to equal 1 second. But a majority of these reports cite a 7 hour discrepancy with a 2700 year old tablet. Am I missing something?

Edit: no mention of the 7 hour discrepancy in the Guardian article however. Hmmm.

I like how they made sure that we know that these are ONLY estimates. Because, I would be REALLY upset if it took 201 million years for that extra hour instead of 200. :)

The thing is, if everyone on Earth, faces East, and runs on a treadmill, we can arrest this situation.

Perhaps our evil governments and the ruthless global bankers will not tell us the day has gotten longer. Hence, we will be slaving away longer each day, but still be paid the same amount.

Why does this article make it sound like its going to happen in our lifetime? Its going to take MILLIONS of years, the earth probably won't be habitable a few hundred years from now.

It's just information.  Some of us knew this already, but still found it interesting.

Without donning a tin-foil hat, what makes you think this is probable?
