+susieice Posted December 8, 2016 #1 Share Posted December 8, 2016 It happened again. I can't open UM from my home computer. Firefox times out and Chrome says UM isn't responding. My computer system is only a month old. Maybe third_eye and Marrs were right. Something in the upgrade is blocking me out. I can log in on my work computer but not my home one. Have no idea what to do. Everything worked fine and all of a sudden I have this problem again.
SHaYap Posted December 9, 2016 #2 Share Posted December 9, 2016 Curious ... I take it that its only UM that is the problem from the home computer ? You can get connected to other sites ? Do you normally log out from UM on your work computer or is the computer switched off / shut down before you leave work ? Is your work computer on a Network environment ? From what I can see so far I doubt its a ISP or UM connected issue ... or software / Operating System problem either ...
Saru Posted December 9, 2016 #3 Share Posted December 9, 2016 If you are getting time-outs then your computer isn't even reaching our server. It could be a problem with your ISP, your network or your DNS servers.
Eldorado Posted December 9, 2016 #4 Share Posted December 9, 2016 There's a wiki on this. http://www.wikihow.com/Fix-if-You-Can't-Access-a-Particular-Website
+susieice Posted December 9, 2016 Author #5 Share Posted December 9, 2016 Thanks El. I printed this out so I can go over my comp at home. Can't use work comp, really, but wanted to see if anyone had suggestions. This is the only site I can't log into. I was in here with Linux for over 3 yrs before the upgrade without problems. I don't think that's what it is. I always log out at work and erase history. My home comp auto logs me out on Chrome. Will come back in Monday night. Accepting any other suggestions. lol It was working just fine for the last month and then done. Rinna said she had a problem opening the site also. My comp system is barely a month old, so I can't imagine what it could be.

SHaYap Posted December 10, 2016 #8 Share Posted December 10, 2016 I can't help but think its more a case of a WiFi point being hogged by downlaod managers or streaming devices ... missed ya Susie ... hope ya get things sorted out soon .... ~
+Hammerclaw Posted December 11, 2016 #9 Share Posted December 11, 2016 Had the exact same problem with this site when I was still running Vista with IE9. Turned out to be an app hang error, corrupted registry.
+susieice Posted December 12, 2016 Author #10 Share Posted December 12, 2016 Tried all of what El posted except the DNS. Will talk to the tech at work about that. What is an app hang error...?

What is an app hang error...? I believe that's a Windows specific quirk, you are still on Linux ? ~ Check your Updates settings for whatever Programs or 3rd party applications you have installed ... try not to have them default at 'Automatic Download and Install' Are you using WiFi points ? Check and see how many connections are attached and match with whatever devices you have that access it ... ~
+susieice Posted December 15, 2016 Author #12 Share Posted December 15, 2016 (edited) I talked with the IT at work. He'll either try a remote session to go into my computer or I'll bring my desktop in to him. He's very good with Linux and he's going to see what happened. We'll probably try the remote first. Miss you guys. Hope to be back soon. Oh. You are right third_eye. Mike said the app hang error is Windows specific. I think he can fix what's wrong with my comp. +susieice Posted December 15, 2016 Author #14 Share Posted December 15, 2016 I'm in Linux Hammerclaw. That's specific to Windows. Our computer tech at work had my comp today and was able to log right in. He thinks it may be my modem, but he wants me to check with Saru to make sure the forum hasn't put a blackball on my IP address from the modem. Am going to PM Saru. If that isn't what it is we'll do a remote session to see if he can find the problem going from my modem.
+susieice Posted December 22, 2016 Author #15 Share Posted December 22, 2016 Nothing wrong at the site. I have my internet provider doing diagnostics now. If they can't fix it, I'm switching service. It has to be the modem.

MWoo7 Posted December 23, 2016 #17 Share Posted December 23, 2016 (edited) HA! people making fun of me, not the only one that couldn't see this site, or AT TIMES could see perfectly but then could'n't log in WHEW! other's evidence. Even the fearless leader ? Saru mentioned not knowing anything about it. I found , well I and a few friends were poking and it seemed a network thing, cleared up now though. I'd mention it whenever I could zip around and get in and all kinds of interesting comments, won't do that again. Oh MERRY CHRISTMAS and you go Linux Girl ! +susieice Posted December 23, 2016 Author #18 Share Posted December 23, 2016 Just found out the cable company I use is being sued for harassment on their phone services. They called me at work today and insisted I help their tech on a computer in my house! She started laughing at me because I told her I'm here and my computer is home. I'm reporting what happened. I want them out of my house.
