Farmer77 Posted December 9, 2016 #1 Share Posted December 9, 2016 Congress has authorized $618.7 billion for the 2017 military budget. The bill ups aid to Ukraine by $50 million and allows the transfer of missiles to Syrian rebels. However, it omits controversial provisions about drafting women or religious exemptions for contractors. 2017 NDAA ups aid to Ukraine, gives arms to Syrian rebels & lets Trump sanction the world A couple of gems from the bill made me puke in my mouth a little : Buried in the bill, in Section 1224, was the provision to allow Man-Portable Air Defense Systems (MANPADS) to Syrian rebels appropriately vetted by US intelligence. We appreciate the bicameral and bipartisan support in the US Congress for Ukraine in our fight against the ongoing Russian aggression,” Ukraine’s embassy in Washington said on Thursday, commenting on the fact that the NDAA increased military aid to the government in Kiev to $350 million, $50 million more than in 2016. One good thing to come from it is a new limit on leave for federal employees along with some other reforms to their personnel policies.
+and-then Posted December 9, 2016 #2 Share Posted December 9, 2016 It's difficult to believe we're really going to give manpads to these guys. Unless our troops are going to actually choose the targets, Russian aircraft will probably be downed. That's not going to end well.

Hell, OUR aircraft will probably be downed because "somehow" the missiles found their way into ISIS hands.

Yes, that's also a possibility but in the grand scheme that wouldn't be as nasty a complication. Except for the families of the pilots, of course. Unless you mean civilian airliners. In any case, it's just not a smart move, IMO.
Dark_Grey Posted December 10, 2016 #5 Share Posted December 10, 2016 "Syrian rebels" are the middle men between us and ISIS. There have been too many instances of, as Lord Fed alluded, these weapons "somehow" finding their way to ISIS or others. Let's just call it what it is: a renewed effort by the Military Industrial Complex to over throw Assad and start war with Russia.
