back to earth Posted January 18, 2017 #102 Share Posted January 18, 2017 23 hours ago, Habitat said: Tim certainly is a guesser, about the subject matter, but there are people in this world who have an acute sense for which way the metaphorical wind is blowing, for what is becoming the fashion, and have a will to cash in. They can smell an opportunity. Tim is making a quid out of atheist thralls, for all I know he may be completely ambivalent about the subject. He is making a dollar from it, I can't tell what he thinks in reality. But it is different here, with the "charity" atheists, their motives are not so difficult to unravel. It is crystal clear they are not convinced at all, or they would not keep blowing the trumpet in these types of threads. They are engaged in an ongoing campaign, to convince themselves. Which is good, they may yet happen on a more appropriate viewpoint, than drear atheism. I think you are just guessing about that ...... hmmmmmmmmmm ?

There is a movement here on these forums from certain religious / spiritual members to change agnostics into atheists . I never called myself an atheist at all ... yet people assume I am . The change was made by THEM not by me " calling themselves atheists, have invaded the ground once occupied by people calling themselves agnostics. " But if twisting things suits and shores up your belief systems , I know which option you would choose .

Trying to bait Tim fans like that won't work ...... next you will resort to your tactic of insulting ... something like comparing his musings to dog's vomit perhaps .... an analogy you collectively applied to numerous posters opinions here . If he were not that clever, he wouldnt be where he is . Aside - personally I cant stand Tim , I turn him off when he starts up . That's just me and some personal urk I have about him - not my style, yet I dont allow my personal prejudice to cloud the justifiable protestations he makes . He is obviously talented , to deny that is just giving over to my prejudice .

Do you think evidence can sway a flat earther ? Like I say, no-one here is a full-blown atheist, otherwise they'd have left the building. Ahhhh I see ... you are upset with P101 for being a rationalist , you really want him to be a blind unmoving prejudiced atheist . God damn you P101 ! Why won't you conform to Habitat's expectations of you !

In other words, it is near meaningless. People who subscribe to that definition are insane. But you made up your own definition and then said it was insane .

God damn you P101 ! Why won't you conform to Habitat's expectations of you ! Quite often people say that they express their own fears upon others. The constant insults of everyone being a guesser because they have answers does not in any way support the religiosity notions being forced with almost fire and brimstone preaching. As such, being drawn to all atheist discussions with these fire and brimstone fork in the road sermons, I would propose that Hab fears his inner atheist. It's rationality threatens to burst the banks of common sense. Best to have him on ignore as he has his own personal struggle to deal with that it seems he will project onto others no matter what. I really do not find his constant derision of any answer in any way the least bit convincing, all he does is stifle good discussion. According to his own argument, it would seems more appropriate that he spend time with like minded people in the Metaphysical forums but to steal one of his own well used phrases "like a dog drawn to vomit" he just does not seem to be able to accept that others have answers which refute hs belief system. Let's face it, if Tim Minchin took that stage, and debated Hab, Hab would not stand a snowflake's chance in hell of countering the most basic points presented, all he could do is stand there red faced jumping up and down hurling insults proclaiming Tim is not a real Atheist whatever the hell he means by that and not that a soul agrees with his insolent banter. Not worth it. Leave him to hang himself. Hows the meme go? Aint nobody got time for that. But on topic, it would be great to hear from the OP instead of that poster. The nature of protest through the arts has always been a medium to get that message across. LINK - Tim Minchin’s Come Home Cardinal Pell is a pitch-perfect protest song Essentially, Come Home Cardinal Pell is a protest song, a genre with a long and proud history of motivating social change. Where delivery by prose would merely constitute fighting words, the garb of song gives the message malleability. In this case, the blunt-force attack becomes humorous, playful and spiteful all at once. To give just a sense of the lyrics, Minchin sings: I know what it’s like when you feel a little ****ty You just want to curl up and have an itty bitty doona day But a lot of people here really miss you Georgie They really think you oughta just get on a plane (Just get on a plane) Whether or not you agree with the sentiments expressed throughout the song, it’s worth looking at it from a purely mechanical point of view. There are reasons it “works” that have nothing to do with the scathing critique of Cardinal Pell – a political issue that this article is not trying to address.
