Still Waters Posted January 16, 2017 #1 Share Posted January 16, 2017 A Turkish cargo plane flying from Hong Kong has crashed in Kyrgyzstan, killing at least 37 people, most of them on the ground, officials say. The Boeing 747 TC-MCL aircraft operated by ACT Airlines crashed as it landed in fog at Manas airport, 25km (15 miles) north of the capital, Bishkek. At least 15 buildings were destroyed in a village outside the airport, with a number of children among the dead. Flight TK6491 was to have stopped at Manas en route to Istanbul in Turkey. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-38633526
+and-then Posted January 16, 2017 #2 Share Posted January 16, 2017 How awful for all of them. I've always been fortunate enough not to live near an airport and I've always been thankful for it. A plane could fall randomly on your house almost anywhere but your odds go way up if you live in the glide path. It sounds like the pilots didn't have enough experience using instruments for an approach in such conditions. That, or instrument failure. Sad. Kismit Posted January 16, 2017 #3 Share Posted January 16, 2017 I didn't realize it had crashed into homes. That somehow makes it much sadder. Last night on the news it was reported as crashing while attempting to land under foggy conditions. No mention of people innocently in their homes dying.
