Was DB Cooper a Boeing employee?

D.B. Cooper’s tie indicates he might have been a Boeing worker

A band of amateur scientists may have found a breakthrough in the infamous D.B. Cooper plane hijacking case — thanks to a clip-on tie. A tie belonging to the mystery man who took over a Boeing passenger plane in 1971 — then jumped out on a parachute, never to be seen again — may indicate that he worked in the aerospace industry, and maybe even for Boeing. A team of researchers, known as Citizen Sleuths, analyzed the JC Penney tie with an electron microphone and found particles of cerium, strontium sulfide and pure titanium. Those elements would have been rarely seen outside of certain environments — such an aerospace plant.

Yes, they thought Cooper might be a Boeing engineer or something like that.  Now there were probably a lot of white men in their 40's working there at the time.  I wonder who has access (other than the government) to their personnel files to start eliminating Boeing employee names from the list of suspects.

Scientists think he may have worked at Boeing, which at the time happened to be developing a Super Sonic Transport plane that used those elements, Tom Kaye, a lead researcher with Citizen Sleuths, told King 5 News.

I`m in the opinion that the BOEING SST never reached even prototype status so the use of Titanium at the BOEING facility would had been very little to zero. But as for the Titanium issue, LOCKHEED/Skunk Works would be a better place to look at because the A12, YF12 and SR71 were made out of Titanium at about 80%.

  • The title was changed to Was DB Cooper a Boeing employee?

The testing was facilitated by the Josh Gates show Expedition Unknown. Watched that episode recently.

Pretty cool. Quite a hero (or anti-hero) back in the day. I like to think he got away with it, don't know why.

Major component parts of jet engines are all titanium. Impellers for one.

He did get away with it. I happen to know where he was for a while. He was in San Quentin prison for possession of 1 ounce of heroin. He is more than likely dead by now though.

Titanium has a few uses in Aircraft, heat shielding being the main use in older passenger aircraft, high-pressure pipes are manufactured out of titanium these days as well.

How about missile component production in Portland ,OR..

He took $200,000. In today's money that's over $1,000,000.

The sketch of him aged bears a remarkable resemblance to Harry Reid.

Maybe that's why his brother punched him in the eye, for not sharing the loot.

Thank the lord for Josh Gates!  May that man never be forced to stay in one place.

What if this was a set up or an inside job? What if he was never supposed to or be in any danger of getting caught? If it was a training op or some kind of insurance scam done by not just Cooper but a group? Maybe to test hijackings or protocol. A wet run of sorts. I'm not calling conspiracy, just the fact that he vanished for a reason. Pat on the back and on to the next job.

I think this news story is compelling but the DNA evidence on the necktie did not match DNA from L.D. Cooper's personal items.

http://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/db-cooper-suspect-was-surveyor-brother-worked-for-boeing/

"Lynn Doyle Cooper, who has been linked by his niece to the 1971 skyjacking, worked as an engineering surveyor, according to an Oregon death certificate.    His brother, Dewey Max Cooper, who also has been implicated by the niece in the skyjacking, once worked at Boeing, his former sister-in-law, Grace Hailey, said Thursday. He also is deceased, Hailey said."
