Le Gigglez Posted January 16, 2017 #1 Share Posted January 16, 2017 When I was young, about fifteen years old, I had an experience with...something. As I got older, I found out it was a windigo but at the time, I had no idea. It was the middle of the night, and I was falling asleep but slowly...I was at that point where I was asleep but still awake enough to be conscious of what was going on around me. At the time, my bed was right up against the window and that made me a bit paranoid from time to time. But just as I was about to drift off, a figure came up to the window and pressed its face against the glass. It was a completely black face with blood red eyes...but not blood red as in blood shot. I am talking, like..red glowing eyes. I am not too sure if it really was a windigo but...it was definitely something paranormal. Thoughts?

Hypnagogic or hypnopompic hallucinations are visual, tactile, auditory, or other sensory events, usually brief but occasionally prolonged, that occur at the transition from wakefulness to sleep (hypnagogic) or from sleep to wakefulness (hypnopompic). The person may hear sounds that are not there and see visual hallucinations. These visual and auditory images are very vivid and may be bizarre or disturbing.

That is a good logical explanation.

Luca-RoseElsie-Raemom1921 Posted January 16, 2017 #6 Share Posted January 16, 2017 Hi and welcome to UM, hope you enjoy your time here. Back on topic it does seem like a bad dream, did you watch, look at or read anything scary before bed that may have caused it. It may also just have been a nightmare for some unknown reason

As I got older, I started to become accosted nightly by Shadow people.

Often times these 'shadow people' are a subconscious manifestation of personal fears through a hypnagogic hallucinations. Similar to the produce of sleep paralysis.

back to earth Posted January 16, 2017 #10 Share Posted January 16, 2017 I thought it was 'Wendigo' ? I had a wonderful Wendigo experience around age 12 . On Giftmas Holidays , we didnt have much money so we used to go to this old style broken down holiday camping and fishing park . It had heaps of big old gnarly pine trees, for the first time, I had a little caravan to myself as we couldnt all fit in the ones they had. It was surrounded by pine trees. To entertain myself at night I took a book along ; collected stories of Algenon Blackwood, it included one called 'The Wendigo' - a great story ! The Wendigo would carry people off and their screams would fade away turning into the sound off the wind blowing through the pines. I would read my nightly fix and lay there listening to noise outside my window . Always remembered that story , and my love for pines has never faded - the smell , the sound of the wind sighing through the pine needles
oldrover Posted January 16, 2017 #11 Share Posted January 16, 2017 An interrupted or irregular sleep pattern is also a big trigger. When I used to work nights, but used to take long naps when I could, the hallucinations were brutal and stupidly random. I saw surfboards sail over my head, jeans flying round the room, a lioness next to my bed, Anubis, giant mercury foetuses hovering in the middle of the room. Worst one was when I woke up and saw a patient crawl along the side of my bed and come right up to my face, I'm not ashamed to say I freaked out that time. A friend of mine woke to find a recently deceased patient standing in the room with him, he freaked out too. He also had a fight with an unseen entity which was trying to pull the covers off his bed, he was there clutching them telling it to 'f off I'm tired'. Thing you don't expect is the HD clarity of these things, it really is like looking at the real thing. Also how awake you can be when they happen. Working with sleep walkers in that situation is no fun either, we had one girl who used to suddenly jump on your bed and shout nonsense at you. Once she leapt on a colleague of mine and said, 'Right! Let me tell you about my Nan's new blue shoes!' Doesn't sound scary but it is at the time.

MWoo7 Posted January 17, 2017 #17 Share Posted January 17, 2017 (edited) Liked the Pines bit there Back to Earth, yeah can recall some saying or mentioning Whispering Pines, and I have to say when around deep /STEEP valley full of them, they do have a sound from the wind and sometimes but rarely a wisk or gust will catch one off guard so to speak, a bit of a surprise WHAT'S THAT!, and then its OH! its just the wind~ : ) Edited January 17, 2017 by MWoo7 - of
Malalhaialayxz Posted January 17, 2017 #18 Share Posted January 17, 2017 That sounds like a rather terrifying hallucination indeed. Or was it...? Anyway, i had a similar experience when i was younger. At that moment i was sick with fever and saw some kind of bizarre, big eyed humanoid thing with orange skin and spindly fingers. Didn't really freak me out though, as that thing was rather friendly in behavior.
simplybill Posted January 17, 2017 #19 Share Posted January 17, 2017 One night when I was around 7 years old, I was in bed and I looked up and saw a red and blue headless figure leaning over my bed. The colors were very intense, unlike anything I'd ever seen. I dove under the covers, scared out of my wits. After about ten minutes I peeked out from under the covers and it was gone. I've never forgotten those intense colors. It was as if the colors themselves were living beings. Another time, when I was around 38 years old, I woke up in the middle of the night and it felt like my room was filled with a dense and terribly evil fog. Believe me, I began doing some very fervent praying! The fog seemed to grow thin, and then it vanished. I fell back asleep and slept peacefully for the rest of the night. I realize now that it was probably a hypnagogic hallucination, though I wasn't paralyzed or anything. It certainly was a strange experience.
