Interbreeding usually only happens between species belonging to the same genus. Interbreeding between genera is much less common, but is possible if they are particularly closely related (if the divergence between the two genera was relatively recent). Alligator and crocodile lineages have been separate for roughly 80 million years. Thank you. That exchange brought my heart rate up. I might add that an American crocodile, is not a Nile crocodile, and the Saltwater crocodile is not American. http://rogerdhall.deviantart.com/art/Alligators-and-Crocodiles-of-the-World-533661870

I am aware of that. I just meant to mention that the American crocodile isn't referred to as the American Saltwater crocodile. The one species known as Saltwater crocodile, is the one found from Australia across to Vietnam. I'm just being pedantic. ETA. Gotta love this forum. People believe in all kinds of things that nobody can see, and they're skeptical about a natural beast being natural. They probably knew the gator was coming since apparently it is a well known individual in the area. Alligators aren't as large and aggressive as salties, either, which is why it just walks on by. The reason it looks so large is due to some forced perspective; the people standing behind it look small in comparison, but only because they're standing farther away. Hawken Posted January 19, 2017 #43 Share Posted January 19, 2017 Amazing how a lot of people thinks this gator is fake. Someone could be filming a real live bigfoot or alien and people will think it's fake.
