Money and happiness

They say money can't buy happiness, while I think this has some credibility directly, I don't think it equates as simply in a real world application, and not for the obvious reasons you may think.

Every body needs a basic standard of living which has a value, and to obtain this value we must work, mortgages, loans, credit card, vehicle payments all leave the majority of us with no option. Now the vast majority of people I know would rather obtain this value with out having to work, im sure everyone here is the same, I know I'd prefer if £2700 went into my account every month and I could just fish all the time.

So the method of requiring the money needed to live can not be seen as being a "happy" pursuit, as we could all think of a thousand things we would rather do than a dreaded Monday morning followed by  40 hrs of labour.

So we spend 5-6 days a week unhappy so we can try and have what's needed to be happy, those odds aren't good straight away!  It would appear we are all in a perpetual circle of shoveling coal all day only to be cold at night.

let's say you inherited enough to pay the mortgage, sort out the debts and a little left over for general living, but you chose still to work, do you think work would still feel like a necessary evil? Would you still think of it as a 40hr slog you need to do to live, or do you think your attitude towards it would change as you no longer "had" to be there but chose to be there??

Would you enjoy your job more if your life didn't rely on the pay cheque?

Some of you may enjoy your jobs and are blissfully happy but I'm after the opinions of the vast majority who don't, ......if the stress of needing a wage was gone would that in turn make work less stressful??

Money alone will not make a person happy...but a total lack of it can certainly make a person miserable. That said, the constant drive for more and more money, more and more things, better and better things. bigger and bigger things, can make a person down right miserable. It's a sort of balance that we need to seek. Ask yourself what type of lifestyle you really desire and make a plan to attain it. I suggest you do not base your life style choice on money alone though...because money alone just won't cut it.
