The last mass power outage was in 2011 and was caused by technical difficulties at a power substation that connected California to Arizona that was undergoing maintenance. The last large blackout before that was in 2003. There was 2001 when California was attempting energy deregulation and caused 6 days of rolling blackouts but energy markets and regulated/deregulating them is a completely different and much more complex discussion. The mass power outage in 2011 had 5 million people lose electricity for a day, the 2001 energy debacle effected 3 million people for six days, California losing a third of its electricity would result in extensive rolling blackouts for the entire population of California along with industry taking a massive hit to productivity. Honestly do you believe the rest of the nation would be willing to trade with California after they would leave the union. Since it's currently illegal for a state to leave the union the quickest and least violent method of bringing them back in would be to cut off their energy completely and wait a few days. They could leave, legally, via a constitutional amendment, any other way would be illegal and could be stopped by force as per the SCOTUS. 2/3 vote of the congress, both houses and then over to the state's legislatures to get 2/3rd to agree. See ya CA and then sell them all the stuff they need at outrageous prices. The most humorous thing would be watching all the expensive regulations they have layered on themselves be quickly washed away as reality sets in. The democrat party would be essentially dead after this move. I'd enact very strict immigration laws against any California becoming an American in order to keep the progressive virus isolated in the People's republic of CA. I'd also transfer a large portion of our military assets into Texas, Nevada and New Mexico where large installations already exist.

We could extend the "wall" to provide security from the Californians as well!

Vorg Posted January 24, 2017 #54 Share Posted January 24, 2017 Only 33% of Californians support the exit. Since majority rules in their world, it looks like we are stuck with them. They could try electoral votes, that might work. Nah, the hypocrisy would be glaring.

Even if not it was not as dire with the examples you gave or widely reported on national media. http://dailycaller.com/2016/06/21/california-created-its-own-energy-crisis/ I looked into the problem and it's largely a problem of their own making, largely from over regulations. It seems a large cause of these blackouts are being caused by a natural gas storage site that has been shut down for maintenance since it was leaking natural gas. The problem seems to be that till all 114 of its wells are checked and pass inspection it can't use any of them. This causes the 17 power plants that draw from those wells to lack the extra natural gas needed to meet peak demand as they occur which causes these rolling black outs. The problem seems to be from over regulations and a lack of infrastructure to allow for alternatives if a problem arises.
Paranormal Panther Posted January 24, 2017 #62 Share Posted January 24, 2017 Bad Vlad wants California to secede from the rest of the country? With enemies like these, who needs friends? They're welcome to split (but not via earthquake), and they can take the crazy celebrities and leftist politicians with them. Then, San Diego could do a "West Virginia".

That's a good point, but when has glaring hypocrisy ever stopped a leftist? San Francisco may pose the most realistic possibility for secession, but it's extremely unlikely (to say the least).

The crazy left is about 23% or so of the country (they're the ones harassing people on planes and marching dressed as vaginas) but 33% in the land of fruits and nuts. The rest mostly swing left but aren't ready to don a latex vagina and scream profanity in the middle of the street and know that leaving the states would be an unmitigated disaster. Regardless, their budget is unsustainable and as said above, much of the harm comes form overregulation and public unions that have destroyed the state's economy. It won't change until the state goes bankrupt and the feds refuse to bail them out forcing a restructuring under chapter 11. Interestingly that would allow a renegotiation of ALL public union contracts and maybe even allow crazy CA to become a right to work state.
