GlitterRose Posted January 29, 2017 #1 Share Posted January 29, 2017 One American commando was killed and three others were wounded in a fierce firefight early Sunday with Qaeda militants in central Yemen, the military said on Sunday. It was the first counterterrorism operation authorized by President Trump since he took office, and the commando was the first United States service member to die in the yearslong shadow war against Al Qaeda’s Yemen affiliate. After initially denying that there were any civilian casualties, American officials said they were assessing reports that women and children had died in the attack. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=3&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwiL-sr6wejRAhXky1QKHatpCk4QqUMIJDAC&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.nytimes.com%2F2017%2F01%2F29%2Fworld%2Fmiddleeast%2Famerican-commando-killed-in-yemen-in-trumps-first-counterterror-operation.html&usg=AFQjCNHMi-wZIuelkSwlXT7NOnOl9Vu4Gg&sig2=YZJRIMTjp06c1Ts26zEihg
GlitterRose Posted January 30, 2017 Author #2 Share Posted January 30, 2017 Though cast as measures meant to make the country safe, the Trump administration's moves during its first week in office are more likely to weaken the counterterrorism defenses the United States has erected over the past 16 years, several current and former U.S. officials said. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=3&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwicy_ezyujRAhXhiVQKHbYBAuEQqUMIJDAC&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.chicagotribune.com%2Fnews%2Fnationworld%2Fpolitics%2Fct-trump-order-counterterrorism-defense-20170129-story.html&usg=AFQjCNG7YDGb3dC6dGVCTHH9sXvPWjj1fg&sig2=8FKU_5_sOGLgReoao9-Rrg
Michelle Posted January 30, 2017 #3 Share Posted January 30, 2017 (edited) When you gleefully post something like this do you ever consider they are someone's family? Come to think of it, I don't recall you reporting in sorrow on every member of the military killed under Obama's watch. *snip* Edited January 30, 2017 by Daughter of the Nine Moons removed personal attack

That guy had a family and while he knew the risks, his death is still heartbreaking. WAR is heartbreaking. Having Americans that are far more concerned with using it as ammo to use politically are truly beyond contemptible. They don't even care that THEY are acting worse than they accuse Trump of behaving. Disgusting and shameful. Claire. Posted January 30, 2017 #5 Share Posted January 30, 2017 In fairness to ChaosRose, I see nothing 'gleeful' or disrespectful about her post. Furthermore, I don't know how anyone could profess to know her state of mind when posting stories that several news sources are carrying. Both articles posted are legitimate and worth discussing. Indeed, to ignore them is to dismiss the importance and significance of them. There's no question war is heartbreaking. No one wants to read news like this, but the fact of the matter is, as long as there is war, we will. Furthermore, like it or not, it's all political. And if policies endanger our forces any more than they already are, it's important that they be addressed.
Daughter of the Nine Moons Posted January 30, 2017 #6 Share Posted January 30, 2017 Lets refrain from personal attacks. Attack the post not the poster.
kmt_sesh Posted January 30, 2017 #7 Share Posted January 30, 2017 ChaosRose, perhaps it would help for you to write some of your own thoughts and feelings instead of just posting quotes and links. Other posters seem to be reading your OP in a certain unpleasant way. Whatever your thoughts might be about Trump or his actions, I would hate to think that you're making light in any way of the death of an American serviceman or innocent civilians. That would paint you in a profoundly dim light. So please feel free to set the record straight.

It was a deliberate choice not to make any type of political statement along with it.
GlitterRose Posted January 30, 2017 Author #10 Share Posted January 30, 2017 Honestly, I expected an outpouring of sympathy for the family. Not posts like this.

Claire. Posted January 30, 2017 #17 Share Posted January 30, 2017 It's no secret that I have a soft spot for SEAL Team 6. The work they do is nothing short of incredible. It took me a few attempts to finish the article as the details of what happened just kept getting more horrific. Fingers crossed that we don't see more stories like this one. I'm also saddened that civilians died in the attack, especially the children.

She is completely entitled to fear and hate the new president. Using the death of one of our warriors to do it is just.... wrong. Sharing the fact that Americans are dying in god forsaken locations for suspect reasons isnt disgusting and shameful, it is being a vigilant American as the founding fathers wanted. edited to add i just saw the editing by the mod so maybe I am out of line and she did post something offensive with the article. Doc Socks Junior Posted February 1, 2017 #24 Share Posted February 1, 2017 http://www.latimes.com/politics/washington/la-na-essential-washington-updates-trump-goes-to-delaware-to-witness-1485981269-htmlstory.html Quote Trump made an unannounced trip to Dover Air Force Base in Delaware to join the family of Chief Special Warfare Operator William "Ryan" Owens, 36, who died during a raid on a compound used by Al Qaeda's Yemen-based offshoot in the country's Bayda province. Quote President Obama opted not to sign off on it because plans called for the raid to take place on the next moonless night in Yemen, which was not until Jan. 28, after he left office. Trump then approved the operation after he took office. Owens' family requested privacy, and Trump's appearance was closed to press.
RavenHawk Posted February 1, 2017 #25 Share Posted February 1, 2017 As a commander when you lose troops for the first time, it never leaves you and you are changed forever. My prayers for the family but also for Trump. He took an unscheduled trip to Dover to offer condolences to the family. I recall my brother escorting the seven men he lost in Iraq and met with each family. Now the Left is filling the air waves with stories about Khizr Khan. Do they have no shame?
