rashore Posted January 31, 2017 #1 Share Posted January 31, 2017 Tomorrow, February first, is Imbolc, also known as St. Brigid's Day. The day after is Candlemas and Groundhogs Day. At cross quarter between the winter solstice and the spring equinox, it is a day to celebrate the retreat of winters dark white cloak and look forward to warmer days of verdant life that is just about to break it's sleep. What is this holiday? In several faiths and cultures, this late winter holiday is often overlooked as the herald of spring. But it always speaks of the hopes of spring. To celebrate, here's a few links about the holidays..... A short history of Imbolc: http://paganwiccan.about.com/od/imbolcfebruary2/p/Imbolc_History.htm An interesting article from Witchology that touches on aspects of Imbolc, Candlemass, and St. Brigid: http://www.witchology.com/contents/february/imbolc_static.php A very nice article from Catholic Culture about Candlemas: https://www.catholicculture.org/culture/liturgicalyear/calendar/day.cfm?date=2017-02-02 A great article from Irish Central about St. Brigid's Day: http://www.irishcentral.com/roots/st-brigids-day-1st-february-marks-the-start-of-celtic-spring-189211061-237561961 And just for fun, a how to on how to make a St. Brigid's cross: http://fisheaters.com/stbrigidscross.html From the Groundhog site, a history of Groundhog day: http://www.groundhog.org/about/history/ I hope folks enjoy the topic, happy holiday
Podo Posted January 31, 2017 #2 Share Posted January 31, 2017 We need more paganism in our day-to-day lives. Those guys knew how to party, and were pretty good at not destroying the planet.
