Popular Post Still Waters Posted February 15, 2017 Popular Post #1 Share Posted February 15, 2017 A newly unearthed essay by Winston Churchill reveals he was open to the possibility of life on other planets. In 1939, the year World War Two broke out, Churchill penned a popular science article in which he mused about the likelihood of extra-terrestrial life. The 11-page typed draft, probably intended for a newspaper, was updated in the 1950s but never published. In the 1980s, the essay was passed to a US museum, where it sat until its rediscovery last year. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-38985425

PersonFromPorlock Posted February 15, 2017 #4 Share Posted February 15, 2017 (edited) Those who think of Churchill only as a political leader will be surprised to know that around 1900, the young Churchill was the highest-paid journalist in England. The man could write. Edited February 15, 2017 by PersonFromPorlock

White Unicorn Posted February 16, 2017 #6 Share Posted February 16, 2017 Churchill was not only a leader but he had a brilliant mind :) I'm so glad they found these papers that evidence he was such a futuristic visionary in his thoughts that has been missed historical until now. I'm American and remember him being viewed here by many as an alcoholic John Bull ally! As I read more about him, he fascinated me by his own sort of wisdom and intelligence as Prime Minister. He was much more insightful then he has been given credit. I find him a very complex and fascinating person, you just have to love him when you discover more about his life and insights!

Vote Conservative when skint and there's killing to be done then vote Labour when it looks like we're safe. Then vote Conservative again because Labour have made a pig's ear of the finances, as they always will. Mark56 Posted February 19, 2017 #12 Share Posted February 19, 2017 You can say what you want about Churchill, but he had those Nazis totally zeroed long before many others didn't.. He understood exactly where they were coming from. The man had had "Cojones" made of brass.
Silent Trinity Posted February 25, 2017 #13 Share Posted February 25, 2017 Nice to know one of our greatest ever leaders was not only a natural leader, inspiring a nation throughout the second world war, but he also had an open mind and embraced broad philosophical questions too.

Codenwarra Posted March 12, 2017 #15 Share Posted March 12, 2017 Churchill was close to broke for much of his life and made money by writing books and articles for newspapers and magazines, beginning with a book on the war on the north west frontier of what is now Pakistan, against Afghan incursions. His next book was about the war in the Sudan. He also covered the Boer War as a journalist.
