Long-term space travel and isolation

It's not surprising that long duration space travelers will suffer from a variety of psychological challenges. What's really interesting, as described in the video, is how the majority of space missions occur in three distinct periods, the third of which, called the third quarter phenomenon, is characterized by increased aggressiveness and emotionalism. It is easy to understand how a person can get to that stage, as long periods of monotony and boredom can be problematic. Care packages and increased communication with family members are a good way to minimize that, but the challenge will be coming up with solutions for situations where such contact is not always possible.
