I didn't use any of my benefits until I got a VA loan to buy a house. It took 8 months of waiting to get my pension approved, but they paid me retroactively so I can't complain. Thankfully my health is good and I've never needed any medical. I didn't hear any of the "baby killer" stuff from the people. When I got back to the States I kissed the ground and got real patriotic from that point on. Edited February 19, 2017 by .ZZ. This year there was no increase in disability pay. It seems strange to me that you don't see this mentioned in the news. I was reading an article on military.com and there was supposed to be a 0.3% COLA for 2017. I would contact the nearest VA office and see what's going on. Here's the article: http://www.military.com/benefits/2016/10/18/compensation-retiree-cola-2017-raise.html

From $525 to a whopping $528 per month. Now I can buy an extra coffee from Starbucks.
Yamato Posted February 19, 2017 #30 Share Posted February 19, 2017 There's no raise in benefits because there's allegedly no inflation. Inflation incidentally is the reason why the Fed keeps teasing and taunting and flirting and flopping with the act of raising interest rates. If prices are going up, interests rates should rise and provide a real rate of return to compete or nobody's going to want to invest. If government wants to keep borrowing to infinity and beyond, it need bonds to sell. So long story short, they're talking out of both sides of their mouths again. Do one thing with interest rates, do the other thing with VA disability benefits. 1 hour ago, .ZZ. said: I just reread my VA letter and I got a $3.00 per month increase, not the $2.00 I said last night. Gromdor Posted February 19, 2017 #32 Share Posted February 19, 2017 Completely off topic, but one of the maintenance managers at one of the power plants I take care of was formerly a Merchant Marine. That goofy guy never washed his coffee cup because of "water discipline". But he drank out of it every day. That thing was so stained and terrible. Nice to see that you don't follow that same ideology.

Not to be argumentative, but there is a big difference between those numbers.. Someone who is rated at 50% and has a spouse receives $919.64 a month. That person would get almost $30 more a month vs $3. Edited February 20, 2017 by Four Winds

I guess I just don't notice much of a difference between the raises. I do work full time though, and I really never look at my bank account (my wife handles the money). But, I get it...if you count on it, $30 can be a big difference.
