The Country’s Most Famous Bald Eagle Pair Just Laid Another Egg

“Mr. President” and “The First Lady” could soon have a new addition to the family.

The duo is a pair of bald eagles nesting at the U.S. National Arboretum who became infamous in the district after the staff trained a livecam on their nest that catches their every move. Now, as the Washington Post’s Martin Weil reports, America’s “First” eagle couple welcomed a new egg into their nest Sunday evening. It is the mated pair’s first of the year and, fittingly, came on Presidents’ Day weekend.

That's all I needed — another cute eaglet to worry about.

Wow! They have snow, not like our Florida friends!

I'll be watching and worrying myself. ;)

Here's where you can find the live nest cams.

It's a noisy area. I just checked in and heard sirens.

It will be interesting to see how they compare with E9's parents. Fingers crossed that all goes well for them.

Apparently, the poor things got dumped with a lot of snow the other day. Mr President sat on the First Lady to keep her warm.

Not sure if anyone has been following this nest since. Mr. President and the First Lady gave birth to two gorgeous eaglets Honor (DC 4) and Glory (DC 5) which hatched on March 29 and March 30. A lot has happened since, most notably the rescue of Honor (April 20) whose leg got stuck in the nest. She (blood tests conformed Honor is female) was returned to the nest less than 24 hours later after getting a medical checkup.

Both eaglets are growing rapidly and getting ready to fledge. Last week, Glory fell out of the nest. Fortunately, he was uninjured but was on the ground for a few days before he figured out how to fly back home. What has been especially special about these siblings is how close and caring they are towards one another. When Glory finally made it back, Honor let him have her fish. At bedtime, the two cuddled together. Not something you often see between sibling eaglets.

Here's a heartwarming video showing Glory's return, the fish gift from Honor, and the bedtime cuddles:

Latest update: Honor and Glory recently left the nesting area for good and are off on their eagle adventure. Fingers crossed that they do well for themselves and lead a long and healthy life.Who knows, maybe one day, they might cross paths with our little E9.

Here's a really funny flashback video from when Honor (DC4) and Glory (DC5) were wee ones.

And here's a more recent photo of the two of them. Both have become gorgeous juveniles.
