Mr. Trump raised about $239 million from small donors during the campaign, compared with Mr. Obama’s $219 million in 2012 — then a record — and about $181 million in 2008, according to the report from the Campaign Finance Institute. Mr. Trump’s total was also more than the small-dollar donations — defined as $200 or less — given to 2016 Democratic candidates Hillary Clinton ($137 million) and Sen. Bernard Sanders ($100 million) combined. Continued....

How is it that you can think this? He has the most elite cabinet in history. He has the actual ex-head of Goldman Sachs, who was in charge of that place during the madness and should by all rights be in prison. I'm astounded that anyone can think he is for the people. He's done nothing but screw the people. He's trying to do away with regulations put in place after the financial collapse, did you know that? Do you understand? He is helping the bankers and fraudsters. Edited February 22, 2017 by ExpandMyMind

+Noteverythingisaconspiracy Posted February 22, 2017 #9 Share Posted February 22, 2017 So taking 239 million dollars of outside donations is self funding these days ? If he truly was a very rich man of the people, out to fund his own campaign (his own words) , wouldn't he have declined those donations ?

Stopping all these insane trade deal alone It remains to be seen what will be done about health care, but removing 0bama care is going to be yuge for many lower middle class people like myself who was pushed right out of the market. We will see how all that turns out. Also removing criminal illegals is going to save the American people a lot of misery. Glad to see he's decided to leave the good hard working folks alone, but the people who have come here to be gang members gotta go. I also believe he will end up saving the tax payer a lot of money simply by not handing out blank checks for government contracts anymore. This Im very interested in seeing

Herd references and "sheeple" designations simply indicates that the intelligent part of the debate is over, due to running out of logic, facts, and, well, intelligence, and the 5 year old "I know you are but what am I" portion of the debate has begun. Personally, at this point I typically opt out.
Clarakore Posted February 22, 2017 #15 Share Posted February 22, 2017 Could the recession have caused lots who wanted to give not to give as much as they wanted to or not at all? Also the rise of online giving probably rises in proportion to the growth of the internet especially in the popularity of social media sites. A populist is by definition "for the people" as they will do whatever is going to please the crowd. It's the antithesis to conventional politicians who will do whatever is going to please their donors.

The best mix of how to maximize that (the Republican way of subsidizing millionaires or the Democratic way of subsidizing those who don't want to work for a living, can be debated till one is blue in the face. However, racist, sexist, homophobic, jingoistic policies that hurt individuals through humiliation, deportation, denial of equal rights, etc. -- these seem a Republican specialty.
