Ancient marble-paved town square from Byzantine era found in Thessaloniki.

A new important archaeological find has been brought to light by works conducted at railway stations in Thessaloniki. At Agia Sofia station they discovered a huge marble-paved town square from the Byzantine era, which has never been seen before.

According to Greek media reports, the Square is dated back to the 6th Century and from the first excavations it seems to have an oval shaped pattern. A town square with similar shapes, paved with marble, has only ever been found worldwide in the city of Jerash in Jordan.
