The Wind Cries Mary

My fave Hendrix song.

Will the wind ever remember
The names it has blown in the past
And with this crush it's old age and it's wisdom
It whispers no this will be the last
And the wind cries Mary.

Wonderful... fire! It's a shame you can't really see it or hear it crackling from that guy up front... Kidding! Kidding!

It was really beautiful.

One of the really interesting things about this song is that when it was originally recorded they were recording a B-side for the Purple Haze single. They had 20 minutes of studio time left and Jimi says to Chaz, "Hey like I wrote this groovy number last night so uh, lets give it a try" So Jimi went over it really quickly with the rest of the band who had yet to hear it and they laid it down in one take.  Jimi then added a backing track and instant classic.  That's usually something that a band that has jammed together daily for five or so years may be able to pull off (speaking from experience) but the experience had only been together a couple of months which makes the version of this song that everyone is familiar with an especially amazing piece of work.
