Popular Post MissMelsWell Posted February 27, 2017 Popular Post #1 Share Posted February 27, 2017 (edited) I don't think I've started a topic in a couple of years! But, I'm excited! I finally pulled the trigger on my "Bucket list trip of a life time!" I'm going to Egypt Oct 8-25th of this year! I have a friend who lives in Alexandria and I decided to go see her and meet her new Egyptian husband for the first time! This is our itinerary! Fly from Seattle to Cairo (little layover in Paris) where our two friends will pick us up at the CAI airport We have a private guide for the four of us (although my friends have been to Cairo a million times, they still like their guide) and after a good night sleep we'll tour Giza and pyramids and junk all day! The second day we'll be seeing the newly reopened Islamic museum and the Coptic quarter. (but this might change. I told them to schedule whatever they'd like to) Our only request was the Giza tour. We could go to see the Tut exhibits etc... but honestly, all four of us have seen it. I saw the original Tut exhibit in Seattle in the 1978. I'm ok not seeing it again to be honest. After hanging out in Cairo for the day, we'll be driving to Alexandria where we will spend 2 days with our friends at their home. I hear we'll be attending a party in our honor at the coffee house our friends own on the Corniche. I think I also heard we're going to the wedding of some folks we don't know haha. That should be fun! Then we leave our friends in Alexandra and they can go back to work and be rid of us. haha, we then have to find some way to make it to Luxor before noon on the 5th day. haha. At this point, we don't know if that is via flying or by overnight sleeper car train. I'm hoping the latter. But unsure. We'll be staying at a residential B&B in Luxor. The proprietor of this 6 suite B&B will be providing us full board, a driver and a tour guide who will be taking us to see everything in and around Luxor that there is to see for three whole days! I'm SO glad my friend who lives in Alex hooked me up with this lady who owns this B&B, she's amazing! In the morning of the 4th day in Luxor, we will board a type of Egyptian house boat called a Dahabiya, with our guide, and we'll cruise down the Nile to see all the monuments and temples along the Nile all the way to Abu Simbel down near the Sudanese border. This will take us four days. If it's on the Nile between Luxor and Abu Simbel, we'll be seeing it. in Aswan, we'll say good-bye to our guide and board a flight to Hurghada on the Red Sea coast! Here, we'll stay for four days and play in the water, go snorkeling, lay in the sun, and if we're not too lazy, we may take one day to pop up to the Sinai Peninsula to visit Sharm El Sheikh, but we thought we'd just play that by ear. The final day we fly back to Cairo and on to Seattle! Honestly, I've been SHOCKED by how inexpensive this is turning out to be. The biggest expense so far is the flights which we chose as Economy Plus because Overswords brother (my BF) is 6'5". LOL I can't look at him folded up like a taco in a coach seat for 17 hours worth of flights. LOL. if you've been to Egypt, and saw or did something awesome that I haven't got scheduled, let me know! I'm still somewhat flexible with my dates on the front and back end of the trip! or, if there is something we should talk to our guide about seeing that they don't have pre-planned let me know! Oh and before anyone recommends it, unless something in the world dramatically changes, we can't go to the Western Desert to places like Siwa and some of the other Oasis' spots ... whether they're dangerous or not is somewhat debatable, but visiting those areas invalidates my travel insurance at this point, so I can't. I have to stick to the Nile river area and Red Sea Coast and can only go to Sharm by plane. Edited February 27, 2017 by MissMelsWell

+and-then Posted February 27, 2017 #5 Share Posted February 27, 2017 Wishing you a safe, comfortable journey! PICTURES! We MUST have them! My dream trip would be to stay 10 days and tour the U.K. No known family ties but I have no doubt that's where my family began. Summer would be nice but I'd also, just once like to experience Hogmanay in the traditional fashion. Even alcohol-free it's bound to be a memory worth making!
MissMelsWell Posted February 28, 2017 Author #6 Share Posted February 28, 2017 The UK has a lot to offer and see! I seem to wind up there about every other year for some reason or another. I never get tired of doing the tourist stuff! Just put away a little money each month and before you know it, you're on your way! You can actually find pretty cheap airfare to the UK as long as you don't mind where you sit! I even know of some very inexpensive places to stay in London (where most of the hotels are outrageously expensive.) So if you find you're going, let me know, I'll shoot ya some secrets!
