Farmer77 Posted March 27, 2017 #1 Share Posted March 27, 2017 Trump administration weighs deeper involvement in Yemen war Defense Secretary Jim Mattis has asked the White House to lift Obama-era restrictions on U.S. military support for Persian Gulf states engaged in a protracted civil war against Iranian-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen, according to senior Trump administration officials. In a memo this month to national security adviser H.R. McMaster, Mattis said that “limited support” for Yemen operations being conducted by Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates — including a planned Emirati offensive to retake a key Red Sea port — would help combat a “common threat.” Approval of the request would mark a significant policy shift. U.S. military activity in Yemen until now has been confined mainly to counterterrorism operations against al-Qaeda’s affiliate there, with limited indirect backing for gulf state efforts in a two-year-old war that has yielded significant civilian casualties.
Gromdor Posted March 27, 2017 #2 Share Posted March 27, 2017 The Houthis that are rebelling in Yemen are Shiite, no? Al Qaida also operates there and are Sunni. Wouldn't acting against the Houthi just turn Yemen more towards Al Qaida? And how is picking a side and killing people going to win us any friends? Seems like we are just helping the Saudi's increase their influence and trying to diminish Iran's. I suppose it makes sense if we are planning on attacking Iran in the future. Trim their branches in Iraq, Syria, and Yemen before bombing them for some reported infraction of the nuclear weapons program.

Trump has surrounded himself with the biggest players in Obushma foreign policy. Trump even wanted to appoint the CEO of Lockheed Martin United Arab Emirates who turned down the job. Trump left the 9/11 countries off the 9/11 travel ban. We know what we've got now, it's clear. Based on the pattern we've seen so far Trump will ultimately disgrace our generals too and blame them when things don't go well. Here's to the military, just what it needed! Ironically the Lockheed Martin guy is the smart one; he'll do a lot better for himself without the giant conflict of interest.
AnchorSteam Posted March 27, 2017 #4 Share Posted March 27, 2017 Yeah, the title of this thing really is a hoot. "Trump Admin weighs deeper involvement" translates into a personal desire on Trumps part to kill people? sigh.... Is that what you guys said about Obama and Libya & Syria, or Clinton with Bosnia and Somalia? Getting invovled in any war means people are gonna die, hopefully most of them will be the bad guys. meh, just fugedaboudit.

Are you saying thats not the case? Are you saying the article is wrong? AND Actually YES YES it is what i said about Obama and Libya and Syria hell I even said it about Obama and Yemen at one point. Sorry you dont like the title but thats the reality of the situation the trump regime wants to kill more people in Yemen To the bolded if you reread the title it says TRUMP REGIME not just trump personally, way to put a partisan spin on it though.

Amen and Amen. It's just You, Me and Phaeton. The three musketeers against the UM parliament. We could probably get third_eye if we talked to him first. He might be the Fourth Musketeer basically . It's a lot to ask of a man 'round here though. And I think we'll have preacherman76 on board in a year or two after he cuts down on the Alex Jones and Trump continues to prove himself. So that's five. Ravenhawk's crusader doctrine (a war on Islam and clash of civilizations) is winning 50-5; that wouldn't be a good game of basketball. We're one more 9/11 away from "1984" and it looks like people can't get enough satisfaction from crying and begging for more of the same. We're ignoring ~94% of terrorist deaths in this country by making the name of the game "radical Islamic", so making it about Islam isn't fighting a war on terrorism it's creating one.

Whatever Donald Trump wants to do? And a general question to all Trump supporters: If Iran supports terrorists why doesn't Putin support terrorists? Well well, that must make you and Yamato awfully Special. While Trump was still in office, I could never find a Democrat that was willing to be critical of him in any way, shape or form, about anything. I wasn't on this board yet, so I can't call you out on that, but it is very unusual. I also recall that calling it the "Obama Regime" was greeted with a storm of outrage, Dems said that you just can't be allowed to call a Democratically elected administration such a thing... not that a guy like Rush Limbaugh cared, ever. Maybe I shouldn't either, seems like I'm going to get lumped in with him just for knowing he came up with that line. But all I have to say is, justify that title all you like, its does nothing to show you have any integrity or fairness or even objectivity.

Bro im on record , on this board calling Obama a mass murderer for his actions in Syria and Libya. As for democrats you've gotta drop the right vs left mindset. Im not a democrat nor am I a republican. As for the title, again, its just facts. Im sorry you dont see reporting facts as being objective. Please however dont question my integrity.

+and-then Posted March 27, 2017 #14 Share Posted March 27, 2017 The Houthis are Shia and are fighting an insurgency for the richest portion of the Saudi oil fields. That war will continue until one or the other is destroyed. No matter which flavor of Islamic nuttiness one prefers, a de-stabilized S.A. wouldn't be good for anyone. Farmer77 Posted March 28, 2017 Author #18 Share Posted March 28, 2017 Yemen At War: Is the world catching on to Saudi Arabia’s crimes? For all intents and purposes Yemen has been decimated by a military onslaught of gargantuan proportion - one of the poorest nations on the planet versus an alliance of several superpowers. Western capitals have bought themselves several dark chapters in the history books … how they will be remembered, and one may hope judged, will very much depend on how they proceed moving forward. (genuine question) First, the comment has NOTHING to do with being a fan of the Saud's. It has everything to do with them being the strongest Sunni power in the region. No House of Saud, no stability, guess who moves in and begins to drive the train? Now, fast forward a year or two (BEST case) and guess who's at war with the (other?) nuclear power in the region? All thing's considered, stability at the status quo ante seems like a better deal to me. The Saudi's will fall someday, no doubt. And they will deserve every moment of hell their opponents inflict on them. I'd just rather chew that food later rather than sooner.
