If the deep cuts are approved by Congress and the U.S. does not contribute to Africa's current crisis, experts warn that the continent's growing drought and famine could have far-ranging effects, including a new wave of migrants heading to Europe and possibly more support for Islamic extremist groups. The conflict-fueled hunger crises in Nigeria, Somalia and South Sudan have culminated in a trio of potential famines hitting almost simultaneously. Nearly 16 million people in the three countries are at risk of dying within months. Link You know, I have been hearing about starving children in Africa since I was a little boy. (I am in my mid fifties now) If we send governmental aid (IE U.S tax dollar aid) then we should have a military presence in that country to ensure the aid reaches the intended recipients. Like Dark_Grey posted, and I have known about, aid is stolen by warlords, sold, or horded by a few. It is just sad, that we hear of decades of starvation of tens of millions of innocents, who want nothing more than food, yet endure starvation, and warfare, added to the misery. Yamato Posted March 30, 2017 #52 Share Posted March 30, 2017 US troops in Africa....if there's some kind of energy or mineral or drug resource to exploit I'm sure we can swipe the big credit card again and pay it back later plus interest, sure. Great. Maybe we can get in cahoots with the blood diamond trade. We can call it Bloodier Diamonds. We can drop bombs with pinpoint precision but let's keep repeating how the food doesn't get past the warlords...because it's not economically feasible to drop food so accurately, that wouldn't be worth the cost. Ah, but that is the beauty of it, don't you see? If we stop the "aid" that buys influence with the warlords, we have to stop with the military activity as well! No more of our people dying for nothing over there, no more of our firepower being wasted or used to create propaganda for our enemies. And no more of our ham-fisted interference. Did you know that the US is indirectly responsible for the deaths of 100 million people in the 3rd world? The ones that have died of Malaria after the USA decided to ban DDT for the most specious and flimsy of reasons, restoring the Mosquito to its leading role in spreading deadly diseases all around the world. That was just foolish, and I am sure that a few decades without our meddling would allow the rest of the world to clear itself up, or to understand the actual value of the various things we had to offer. They might be able to make better choices next time around. And that goes for us, as well.

That's the best example I can think of.
aztek Posted March 31, 2017 #55 Share Posted March 31, 2017 what bin laden? the one that had kidney failure in 2001? and needed dialysis? you telling me he made it till 2011, ok, have you seen dialysis machine in a building he was allegedly killed in? no there wasn't any. In March 2000 the Chicago Tribune reports that an Afghan witness and “Western intelligence official” say bin Laden is suffering from severe kidney and liver failure. Link: http://articles.chicagotribune.com/… This story was also picked up by CBS News in 2000, who outright lead with the title that “Bin Laden Reported to be Dying” from “kidney disease.” Link: http://web.archive.org/web/20010212010328/.. In July 2001, the South Asia Analysis Group reports: “Bin Laden, who suffers from renal deficiency, has been periodically undergoing dialysis in a Peshawar military hospital with the knowledge and approval of the Inter-Services Intelligence, (ISI) if not of Gen.Pervez Musharraf himself.” Link: http://web.archive.org/web/20011007021426/…

Not sure what religion has to do with government's giving our money to other countries. I'm pretty sure we elect them to look out for our country. Now as a Christian I do believe in donating to charities but I only donate my money, not other peoples money. We (the US) have our own problems. Our infrastructure needs work, some people are under nourished, we have homeless people, the VA needs more funding, etc. OUR government should be using OUR money to correct OUR problems. Let individuals choose whether to help out the needy in other countries.
