freetoroam Posted April 9, 2017 #26 Share Posted April 9, 2017 I have not done this...yet, but is sure interesting. as it stands i am fortunate to be able to trace my French family back 5 generations as they are all in the same cemetary. French pagan peasants from the center of France. It was a very big family but over time and the great social change, most have moved from the villages and spread out into the big wild world of the new "social village" called the cities. my mother being one of them. I still go back to visit my forefathers resting places and old houses which once was teeming with children and hard working peasant farmers as it is steeped with the history of the past. As for my Greek father....he had always said they all originated from Egypt. This is were i want to find out about...it is all fascinating stuff. me? I can offer a mixture of French and Greek blood with a south London accent as that is where i was raised. will let you know if i am related to any Egyptian princesses or kings if i do the test .

And he had the Ancestry DNA done, and it turns out he was almost entirely British/French, with some Jewish thrown in. The interesting part is that he ended up being a 99.9% match with another guy here in Oregon, who had also taken the DNA test, and Ancestry suggested he might be a relative. Turns out the guy was his biological Dad, and they got together and turns out they have ten times as much in common then he did with his adopted parents. Happy Ending.... Well, my DNA shows I am a direct descendant of Ramesses the Great, so I am in direct line for the throne of Egypt. Except there is no longer a throne of Egypt. Okay, so maybe I made that up, but your story intrigues me because I myself am adopted. I did the NatGeo Genome project some years ago, which was interesting but didn't go into the kind of details like other testing agencies do.. It showed my distant descendants started out in Africa (as everyone's did, I suppose) and ended up in France. I've always intended to try one of the other agencies to learn more about my more recent line. I've heard good things about 23andme.

He told my mom his family had owned a castle at one time. Wouldn't that be cool if it was true They told us our ancestors owned a castle too. Later I realized they said cattle.

You can transfer your data from Genographic to FamilyTreeDNA for free:https://www.familytreedna.com/landing/nat-geo-transfer.aspx#/verify I don't think you will have match though, but at least you will have new ancestry calculators. Thanks for the idea. I want to do it. Unfortunately I recently moved into a new apartment and for the time being can't find the NatGeo box. It has the code I need to transfer the information. Why not come over and help me find it?

I'll contact someone from the paranormal boards. Perhaps they can find it with remote viewing. (Tee-hee!)

For once I can agree with you. Having done my own family tree research I have found the truth to be much more exciting than the stories. cormac

However, as an example, I did find out that there were 4 separate families aboard 'the Anne' who arrived in America July 10th, 1623 and I descend along individual lines from each family. cormac
designer Posted April 28, 2017 #37 Share Posted April 28, 2017 (edited) I did it and was disappointed that ancestry does not separate results from the scots and the english. Have them all as UK. I was hoping to find out if I have any Scottish ancestry. I consider them to be very different people. So just left with Mostly UK and Irish. The region showed is close to the border of scotland so still left with the question. Edited April 28, 2017 by designer spelling
