Petrified Witch of Kanawha County

Surely few English speakers who have observed the “Witchers Creek” road sign on U.S. 60 have done so without considering the association with the word “witch,” surely a coincidence. But it turns out a witch-legend is indeeed associated with the stream, though few seem to know how believable much of the tale might be and fewer seem to know of the tale at all....

As is fitting for a witch story, no one knows what became of her body

apparently her friends buried her under a cliff.

but hey! This is one of those late night round the campfire stories...for entertainment purposes and to be found under the fiction....oh wait....non fiction...hmmm...that does not sound right....anyway...should be under fiction section.

That's like there is a creek east of San Antonio  called Woman Hollering Creek. It starts  in the back of Randolph AFB near the golf course. It eventually runs into Cibolo Creek. There  is two versions of how it got its name. One is a lady was down at the creek getting water or washing clothes, and saw indians coming ,so she hollered a warning. The other is one of her children was playing by the creek in ,and she hollered for help.Funny thing is, I once saw years ago  a county map where it was called Indian Woman Hollow Creek. While it doesn't feature a witch, thought it was kind of neat. Also supposedly back in pioneer days a farmers son was killed by a werewolf in the area of the town of Converse. You can google it.
