Still Waters Posted April 24, 2017 #1 Share Posted April 24, 2017 A caterpillar that munches on plastic bags could hold the key to tackling plastic pollution, scientists say. Researchers at Cambridge University have discovered that the larvae of the moth, which eats wax in bee hives, can also degrade plastic. Experiments show the insect can break down the chemical bonds of plastic in a similar way to digesting beeswax. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-39694553
kartikg Posted April 26, 2017 #2 Share Posted April 26, 2017 this is wonderful and if they convert this into fertilizer there will be farms of these.
UFOwatcher Posted April 26, 2017 #3 Share Posted April 26, 2017 (edited) Not clear to me if it was determined they were actually eating the plastic as opposed to cutting holes the size of their bodies [looking at the picture] to get out. Did they actually ingest plastic? Bad for the bees... Edited April 26, 2017 by UFOwatcher
