Lilly Posted May 3, 2017 #26 Share Posted May 3, 2017 Well, it's said that the current "Dear Leader" smokes, drinks, eats cheese and has a harem of young women. I'm not so sure he's POed as much as he's a megalomaniac intoxicated with absolute power.
MordorOrc Posted May 3, 2017 #27 Share Posted May 3, 2017 It's more like Kim Jong-un is trying to prove himself to the military generals and the North Korean elite because they regard him as a weak figure. Unlike his father, who had years of appearances alongside Kim Il-sung and had the benefit of those years being used to extend the personality cult around him, the succession surrounding Kim Jong-il was not that secure. It was initially his oldest son, Kim Yong-nam, who was meant to succeed but he blew those chances by getting arrested at Tokyo Disneyland on a forged passport from the Dominican Republic (well that and he spent so much time overseas that he came back and said he wanted to change and this p***ed his father off immensely). Kim Jong-un was sort of a "**** who do we choose now" successor, although he was the the only real candidate because Kim Jong-il hated his other son because he was too sensitive. However by the time it came around to getting on with the process of extending the personality cult to Kim Jon-un, Kim Jong-il was, more or less, on death's door and there was nowhere near enough time between Kim Jong-un being the designated successor and Kim Jong-il joining his father in the majestic palace in the sky. Ever since then, Kim Jong-un has been proving he is tough and capable of leading North Korea, either through buttering up the North Korean elite by commissioning new pleasure grounds and facilities or through fear and intimidation, hence the spate of executions of high-ranking officials. The problem with this is that it's not working, so he has to resort to other methods to impress the generals. Threatening war with the United States and missile tests are one of those things, but so is all out war. The generals wouldn't want that because the North Korean military is at least 30 years out of date with it's equipment and capabilities. They also can't remove him because it would pretty much ruin the whole country and plunge it into chaos. So they're in a pickle.
Mr.United_Nations Posted May 3, 2017 #28 Share Posted May 3, 2017 Apparently US commandos are planning to target missile sites in North Korea. They have been building scale models of missiles and launchers as practice in the states. I'll link the news story

I'll link the news story I think such preparations are crafted and honed for many different eventualities but if the crap storm begins, the guys guarding those sites better make sure they are up to date on their insurance and that they have plenty of strong tea to keep them sharp and alert. Surprise and overwhelming violence tends to make for a bad day for guards like that... all that's missing are the pliers and blowtorches
