Raising a family is wired into us, that is for sure. It is interesting that it seems to always end up a mild disappointment.

The disappointment usually happens in their teen years or early twenties. Then later you realize it ain't so bad after all and find your love for them again -- maybe because by then they have grand children.

Because ANY species that did NOT fight hard and struggle to survive became extinct in a hurry and isn't around anymore. Mankind is here because we fought so hard against some really massive handicaps. Thin delicate skin with no fur, short weak nails instead of claws, teeth that are almost useless in a fight, we are slower than ALL predators and not the fastest climbers in the world, and we are not very prolific breeders. All we had was a little bit of intelligence and an IRON will to live. Later tools, fire and weapons made us the true king of beasts but before that it was just pure orneriness.
