Still Waters Posted May 22, 2017 #1 Share Posted May 22, 2017 After 146 years, America's most celebrated circus Ringling Bros and Barnum & Bailey Circus has staged its final performance in New York. Owners of the company said the tough decision had been made due to falling ticket sales and high operating costs. "As far as this great American institution, it is a sad moment," ringmaster Johnathan Lee Iverson said. For the performers, it also means the end of a tight-knit community that lived on a train in between shows. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-39995384 Previous thread - http://www.unexplained-mysteries.com/forum/topic/302759-ringling-bros-circus-plans-to-shut-down/

BrooklynGuy Posted May 22, 2017 #4 Share Posted May 22, 2017 I'm very sad to see the RBBB Circus come to an end, I have many fond memories of seeing them when I was a youngster and when I took my kids.

I was never that much of a fan myself, I saw it twice when I was a kid at that was enough. Clowns..... does anyone actually like those damn things? However, it is sad to see something like this go away after a century and a half. Live entertainment seems to be headed for extinction, as if people have had enough of each other. After 146 years, Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey is closing for good, responding to a prolonged slump in ticket sales that has rendered the business unsustainable, according to its operator, Feld Entertainment. quiXilver Posted May 22, 2017 #13 Share Posted May 22, 2017 Oh, I'd say the animal bit has some influence on the drop in ticket sales. Sea World facing similar adjustments to its live animal shows in response to growing awareness and concern over the living conditions of animal performers.

Gromdor Posted May 22, 2017 #18 Share Posted May 22, 2017 Circuses used to be the "Greatest Show on Earth" but with the explosion of media these days, their performances kind of pales. It used to be the only place where you can see clowns, acrobats, and elephants. Now you can google all these things and watch them at home. It's sad, but I can understand their demise.

I was a teenager though...one of those Children of allll Ages that the ringmaster greeted, along with the Ladies and Gentlemen. it wasn't Ringling Brothers / Barnum and Bailey though..... It was the Royal Hanniford Circus. Very enjoyable and especially exiting when the tight rope walker almost fell....which I'm sure was part of each of his performances i also Loved the little band playing "Clrcus" music....and the trapeze artist ! She was gorgeous!
Princess Serenity Posted June 5, 2017 #20 Share Posted June 5, 2017 (edited) I think I went to their circus one time with my dad's parents and a few cousins (I believe). I don't remember if I had a good time or not. Going to miss their commercials. Edited June 5, 2017 by Princess Serenity
