Billion Soviet rubles found in abandoned mine

Still Waters

Recommended Posts

A group of explorers in Russia discovered around a billion Soviet rubles in a swamp at an abandoned mine – but unfortunately, their haul is not worth anything.

The group from Saint Peterburg had heard rumours of large piles of cash dumped in old missile silos after the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, according to Russia's Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper.

Be better to look for the hordes of diamonds Russia has stashed away. Right after the fall of the Soviet Union PBS did a documentary on DeBeers. It included a bit about Russian diamond stockpiles and how DeBeers was negotiating at the time to make sure they didn't flood the diamond market and destabilize it. The amount was staggering.
