Crows as Messengers?

TropicMix

Recommended Posts

In the last two weeks I have noticed two memorials to young men, aged 19, who have drowned. In each instance a single Raven flew by and cawwed at me, landing near by. I asked, is that you? And Each time the bird seemed to reply with loud caws. Thoughts? One drowning happened in 1919 another in 2009. Both locations were remote and on other sides of the state from one another. Thanks! -Nay

In my experience, there are teachers and messages everywhere in life... ever present, at all times; animate, inanimate... matters not.    Everything carries a message based on its essential nature.

All of nature is speaking constantly, singing really is more how I'd put it.

It is a sad trait, when one who is not listening, assumes nature to be mute.

Whole body listening...  Listening through the field of awareness, not just the ears.  Internal listening.

I'd pick a spot you are very comfortable in, and then settle in and just breathe for a space and see what you hear when you focus on your inquiry.

Crows, ravens, big black birds in general pop up a bit in folklore as messengers. The most famous are probably Odins ravens, and there are many cultures that associate them with death and dying and being messengers or carriers of the spirit realm. They even show up as fortune tellers- there are rhymes about how many blackbirds sitting somewhere tell your fortune. One for sorrow, two for birth.. ect. There's a couple different variations of it.

Going back to the OP.. I'm not too sure if I believe those crows at that moment were spiritual messengers. They might have just been a couple of smart guys interacting with you in their own animal way. I've had some fun moments talking to some of my local birds- I got no idea what we are saying to each other, but sometimes it happens. A few of the big crows are pretty bold sometimes, lol. The Canadian Geese I walked off the property the other day were particularly chatty and argued with me shooing them the whole way. I don't think it's anything spooky going on, but it's funny sometimes how humanly conversational these interactions can be sometimes.

TropicMix,

Another perspective to consider:

I live on an acreage in the country. I'm continually impressed by the tenacity of Nature, and how Life appears to effortlessly impose itself on our world. For one example: I have six acres of grassland that I leave uncut for the ground-nesting birds. After only a few years, there already are dozens of tall saplings growing: walnut trees, locust, mulberry and maples. Left alone, the grasslands would soon be a forest.  It appears to me that the creatures of Nature are harbingers of life, rather than harbingers of death, and I find in that a message of hope, a reminder that the cycle will continue long after we've all moved on.

(Please forgive me if that doesn't make sense. I exceeded my caffeine limit today.)

Crows are associated with death with varying myth (I use myth here in the stronger sense of the word plus its primary definition:

1.
a traditional story, especially one concerning the early history of a people or explaining some natural or social phenomenon, and typically involving supernatural beings or events.

although many will read the word and believe it means something else and also not truly understand the meaning of what i wrote. yet let any failings of communication be on both of us. i take no full blame when i have made this effort to explain how to use the word properly and also provided the weaker and secondary definition here:

2. a widely held but false belief or idea. )

The reason they have been associated with death stems from being carrion birds.

Spoiler

now myself personally, like a few others might, associate crows and also ravens as spies for those who design darkly, this is how they were used in jordan's wheel of time series, as spies for the dark one who also utilizes friends of the dark.

within this specific mythos each faction has their networks of spies including the eyes-and-ears of my favorite faction, the aes sedai.

yet i prefer the friends of the dark as my favorite group, known in all lands by different names such as people of the shadow and shadowrunners.

plus the black ajah of the aes sedai is composed of dark friends amidst the more formal and official ajahs, these are the places i fit in this world when accounting for psyche (which is greek for soul or spirit).

but i have not and would not play the part as the stereotype jordan presented, of being fearful and clumsy over it, and the cause of their easy as downfall that caused them to slip so soon,

my downfalls are done fully in the light sans fear and for all to see, not a point of pride but a note of difference applied here specifically,

jordan did make more fleshed out exceptions such as the warder tomas who was bonded to verin of the brown ajah, he agreed to help her spy on the black ajah itself and thus turned even on the dark one.

and if jordan still wrote on this side of life, i feel strongly he would have revealed a favorite character of mine, the gleeman thom merrilin, as a spy for the dark one.

gleemen like dark friends associate with many groups, they have friends in low places and high ones too but just a few, and near or far they are dear, just like me and you,

as personal allegiances can vary and win over "official" and "unofficial" organizational allegiances, which :"unofficial" groups themselves maintain a sacrosanct veneer and are within the official-unofficial dichotomy, which to me is all the same, and plus i have no time for formalities and officialism be they in the form of aes sedai tower laws and all the other groups who regulate their members and others via codification which often is ignored when "unoffical rules" come into play, which in law would be know as de jure and de facto,

this was my own interpretation,of what crows mean as spies for the dark one, which was wholly based on inspiration for wot and how it reveals much about our world, hopefully you can take something from this in deriving your own personal meaning of your double crows sightings divided by distance but united at the scene of incidents which ended identically,

Now for more personal interpretation i offer you this for now, but I will return with a bit more of lore, that these birds were spies, they were spying on you, for you, as a sign,

of your future calling to fully receive and begin using the gift of healing: in many areas and ways perhaps, but this task calls for healing for the trauma these two deaths created,

healing where needed be it for them, friends and family, locals, yourself and any other traumatizes, guilty or innocent, all deserve healing and forgiveness, so for now keep your heart and mind open and never mind the riff or raff and the oppositional to be they found in my views or others or even in yourself, focus on healing not the criticism that is not willing to help others heal who need it, or allows others to believe as they do, but only demands that we convert to their point of views instead of offering and understanding with consideration and kindness.

the prayer of a murder of crows

when they realize they will know they do it more to themselves than others and will change for it is best on their timing via love and patience, may i be given more of both to wield as a non-weapon and non-armor which stilln do the same but better without the wars of my fathers and the worries of my mothers.

for where there is two in unity i will join without changing the unity but only fulfilling the prescription of where two or more are gathered there I AM and here we are

the two crows have also visited here and have seen and heard you all in heart and mind over distance and time,

they have spied on you but they spied for you and will quietly tell you a few things you need to know

they will quietly change forms into the very essence of your being and true selves

when we are ready we will wait and listen for the tiny quiet voice within

may we become a true servant to self as it is a requirement

when we are commissioned as master of our fate

and captain of our soul

give me pure willingness

which leads to pure will

for my will alone speaks

but is deaf and blind

and with you I AM

my heart hears and sees

allowing listen and gaze

Then Samuel said, "Speak, for your servant is listening

the following two works were used in either direct quote or paraphrase

the book of first samuel, whom tradition claims judge samuel, who was also a prophet as were gad and nathan, as the three co-authors, while modern scholarship claims it was a composite work of many compilers, who themselves used many different texts written by others

&

invictus by william ernest henley

Quote

"Render the hearts of this people insensitive, Their ears dull, And their eyes dim, Otherwise they might see with their eyes, Hear with their ears, Understand with their hearts, And return and be healed."

--Isaiah 6:10

,

FOR THE HEART OF THIS PEOPLE HAS BECOME DULL, WITH THEIR EARS THEY SCARCELY HEAR, AND THEY HAVE CLOSED THEIR EYES, OTHERWISE THEY WOULD SEE WITH THEIR EYES, HEAR WITH THEIR EARS, AND UNDERSTAND WITH THEIR HEART AND RETURN, AND I WOULD HEAL THEM.'

-Matthew 13:15

...saying, 'GO TO THIS PEOPLE AND SAY, "YOU WILL KEEP ON HEARING, BUT WILL NOT UNDERSTAND; AND YOU WILL KEEP ON SEEING, BUT WILL NOT PERCEIVE

Acts 28:26

.

And many think the Bible is "supposed to tell all" and "you are to believe it all and be saved" while others fault it for "not telling all when it is claimed otherwise" and they fault believers for "not being healed, whole, and healthy" but I see you two as the same and equal.

Myself, I am a bit lower, and weaker, but understand from those two positions that the Bible clearly states the above three scriptures, and while all will come to hear and see with heart's eyes and ears, where true scripture is written and living and will be presented without a need for editing

as there are errors of using our own understanding and will to know what is true but only by allowing understanding itself to stand over us and true will derived from but always paired with willingness.

THIS IS JUST MY VIEWS, I DO NOT WISH TO CONVERT ANY WHO DO NOT BELIEVE FOR ALL MUST FOLLOW THEMSELVES, NOT A BOOK, NOT ME, NOT ANY SYSTEM, NOT EVEN THEIR FALSE SELVES WHO WISH TO LEAD THEIR TRUE SELF, BUT PATIENCE WINS AND YOU ALL WILL FOLLOW YOUR TRUE HEARTS NO MATTER HOW OR WHAT AND WHEN YOU BELIEVE WHAT YOU BELIEVE

1919?..crows do not live that long. So if you think the crow is the spirit of the man who died in 1919, then this would mean the spirit is jumping from one body to another. ... this is pure fantasy stuff.

you saw a couple of crows and as already mentioned..they are clever.

i have birds around me a lot..living on the water and i talk to them everyday and they "talk" back. There have been 4 deaths were i am in the past 3 years, it would be extremely naive of me to attribute the birds to these dead people when they "talk" back, because i know they are just birds doing their thing.

May i suggest you go back to the locations you saw these crows and look to see if you can see another crow..chances are you will. It has nothing to do with the crows carrying a dead persons spirit.. it is crows -being crows.

Crows are considered bad omen, it usually means someone in your family might meet death.

Chances are pretty high that someone in everyones family will meet death sooner or later.

There are more people dying each day who are a family member, than there are crows hanging about. Work out the % and it is quite clear crows have nothing to do with it.

  • 3 weeks later...

I live in Florida and I see crows all the time flying around and sitting on tree's. Don't really think too much of it anytime I see them. Their known to be bad omens though.

Don't stress too much about it. ^_^

For me they (crows) are a reminder of my teen years and the loss of a school friend Paula...Paula and I visited a graveyard one quiet, sunny day and along the path we took we noticed the gravestones of children. We commented about the ages of the children and how sad that they died so young. As we strolled along the tree lined path that was dappled with a mix of shade from the trees and sunlight passing between the leaf canopy we noticed several crows walking on the same path a few feet ahead of us. The crows were walking in a line like little soldiers and we smiled at the odd sight. Two days later, silent pneumonia took Paula's life.

'usually'

I've always thought that this is pretty stupid. It's just a superstition which people attach themselves to, to find meaning.

If it were true, pretty much everyone in Australia would be dead. I see crows multiple times daily.

Or is it one of those things; 'if you don't believe it then it won't affect you'?
