Merc14 Posted June 23, 2017 #1 Share Posted June 23, 2017 (edited) Just breaking but it looks like a two seat F-16D flown by The Thunderbirds flipped on the runway after landing. It had been on a media flight with a pilot and rider onboard. http://www.daytondailynews.com/news/thunderbird-plane-flips-its-top-dayton-air-show/9hYLy25uRDPep71YW9P2HJ/ http://www.avgeekery.com/breaking-thunderbirds-incident-at-dayton/ Edited June 23, 2017 by Merc14

+and-then Posted June 23, 2017 #5 Share Posted June 23, 2017 The weather must have blown in suddenly. I know those guys are some of the best but drastically reduced visibility while taxiing seems to have caused him to get into the mud. It sounds like the two are okay. If you've never been to the EAA AirVenture in OshKosh, Wisconsin, you HAVE to put it on the bucket list! I spent 3 days just walking through the War Birds (WWII aircraft) area. My father-in-law and I took a ride on a B-17. It only climbed to about 1000 feet and the area just ahead of the radio operator's seat was left open so you could stick your head out. I imagine the speed wasn't much over 100 MPH, maybe less. It was an awesome experience for a kid who grew up dreaming of being a fighter pilot I plan to go back in the next couple of years. Did I mention that it was AWESOME?

All guesses at this time.

Did I mention that it was AWESOME? Man, you're lucky. My grandfather was a top turret gunner on a B-17 called the Super Rabbit during WWII. I've always wanted to fly in one. Here's a picture that he drew while he was a POW, that was also the nose art of the plane: I live right by the Selfridge Air National Guard Base, in fact my street lines up with the runway so we always see the planes taking off and coming in for landing. They also have an air show every 2 years and this year is the 100th anniversary of the base so it should be a good one. The Thunderbirds are supposed to be here for it, so I hope this doesn't stop them from flying. My house is a prime area to see them do all of there tricks. My favorite is when they fly like 30 mph. with the plane at a 45* angle with the nose pointed up.
skliss Posted June 24, 2017 #9 Share Posted June 24, 2017 Awesome drawing!! My husband and father-in-law just saw this show last weekend in Youngstown. They thought it was great. We lived in FL when I was small and saw the Blue Angels a lot. They are also spectacular. : )
