Amelia Earhart: Sniffer dogs locate remains

NIKUMARORO ISLAND, KIRIBATI - Four bone-sniffing dogs that were brought to this remote Pacific island to search for traces of Amelia Earhart have identified a spot where the pioneering aviator may have died 80 years ago.

Within moments of beginning to work the site, Berkeley, a curly red male, lay down at the base of a ren tree, eyes locked on his handler, Lynne Angeloro. The dog was “alerting,” indicating to Angeloro that he had detected the scent of human remains.

Next up was Kayle, a fluffy, eager-to-please female. She also alerted on the same spot. The next day Marcy and Piper, two black-and-white collies, were brought to the site. Both dogs alerted.

Uh, before anyone gets their hopes up, they might want to read the history of the island and failed settlements there. It's not exactly Gilligan's Island.                                               https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nikumaroro

Isn't there like a whole abandoned village there? Or, parts of one at least?

EDIT: Apparently there was a village on the south side of the main atoll entrance way, but I don't see any evidence of it still there on the Google Maps pictures of the island. There was also a US Coast Guard station on the far southern tip, and I don't see anything remaining there either. Apparently 50 years can remove the visible footprint of man.

Over 60 people lived there within the time frame of any artifacts found. They're just milking the donors.

But not all the detritus of his presence. So, it's premature to attribute anything thus far found to dear Amelia.

  • The title was changed to Amelia Earhart: Sniffer dogs locate remains

Just leave poor Amelia alone at last. What's all that cult is about after all those years?

Finding the plane would be a big evidence... They have been a lot of perturbation and human presence there, it's all long shot to find proof on the atoll.

I think people just want to know what happened to Ms Earhart, that's all really.

She's dead, that's for sure, and there's no one really to blame for. Antoine de Saint-Exupéry is also lost without a trace but no one sniffs his poor remains out. I'm all about leaving the dead in peace, wherever they are.

You should watch the History Channel's new documentary about Earhart. The islanders say they've been telling US officials for decades what they saw at the time of Earhart's disappearance. They saw a tall, thin white woman that looked like a man in Japanese custody. The evidence presented indicates that Earhart landed on the island of Mejit in the Marshall Islands. She was taken to the island of Jaluit where the newly found picture of her sitting on the dock was taken. From there, she was taken to a prison on Saipan, charged with spying, where she contracted dysentery. The evidence presented is pretty strong to indicate this may well have been her fate.

You need to remember that Earhart was an accomplished pilot who achieved everything that Charles Lindbergh did. She was well able to realize her plane's capabilities, plot a course and land on one of those islands. She would not have run herself out of fuel and dropped into the ocean.

Would the US have reason to cover this up? Absolutely! It's long been speculated how far in advance was the US aware of the impending attack on Pearl Harbor. How about if they knew in 1937 how hostile Japan was becoming?

You'd hope there would be an actual grave and marker and not some bones covered in dirt.

That picture was debunked within a few hours of the documentary airing. The picture was published in a travel guide to South Pacific islands in 1935, 2 years before Earhart disappeared.

I think her bones are resting in Davy Jone's locker, and the sea rarely gives up her dead.

The History Channel is actually investigating this. They said this travel guide was a Japanese coffeetop book that was from 1935. They are also checking out the other evidence that was put into the documentary. Odd that no one else mentioned this. Need to find that book.

The hysteria channel is well known for fakes such as the Nostradamus effect, pawn stars, ancient aliens, and ufo hunters.

Not surprised to see a CYA being done by them on this glaring mistake.
