Hunt for Madeleine McCann needs more cash

Scotland Yard is to ask for more money to continue its six-year investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.

Detectives are struggling to resolve a final lead, which, if it fizzled out, could have brought the £11m Government-funded investigation to an end next month.

I understand that the Home Office is willing to carry on paying for the last bit of work to be completed.

They added that they have not received a new funding request from Scotland Yard but that "any future request will be considered carefully".

Well now they have -

Police have asked the government for more money to investigate the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, weeks before funding is due to end.

The Home Office said the application would be considered.

Detectives have been given an extra £154,000 to continue the decade-long search for Madeleine McCann as they are hunting a 'person of significance'.

The Home Office confirmed it will fund work to chase up a 'critical' lead in Scotland Yard's inquiry.

The figure brings the total spent in 2017-18 on Operation Grange to £309,000 and the overall cost to around £11.5million.

Senior detectives expect the investigation into her disappearance will now continue until at least March.

The parents of Madeleine McCann have a £750,000 fund to pay for a private search for their daughter if the police hunt is finally axed next month.

The money is in the Find Madeleine Fund, which is made up of donations and profits from mum Kate’s bestselling book on the disappearance.

Scotland Yard’s Operation Grange only has seven weeks left of guaranteed funding and is due to end after a £11.3million hunt.

Detectives have not yet requested further funds from the Home Office to continue their work in April.

Scotland Yard detectives investigating the disappearance of Maddy McCann have asked for more money to continue the search for her.

The Home Office confirmed on Monday that it is considering an application for more money to keep the probe, called Operation Grange, going.

That's a sad case but unless they can provide some evidence that they are making progress, why continue to spend resources?

Police investigating the disappearance of Madeleine McCann have been granted more money to continue the search.

More than £11m has been spent on the Metropolitan Police inquiry, known as Operation Grange, but funding was due to run out at the end of the month.

A Home Office spokesman said the government was "committed" to the investigation into the 2007 disappearance of Madeleine in Portugal.

Somethings not right here, not right at all.  Starting to think it was an accidental death and the parents are trying to blame on someone but are failing, so they and the investigators are asking for more money

'We haven't had a fraction of that help': Ben Needham's mother speaks of her frustration as Maddie McCann hunt gets more cash while her toddler son remains 'a missing person'

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5554195/Ben-Needhams-mother-Kerry-speaks-frustration-Madeleine-McCan-funding.html

I feel for this mother.  Her son goes missing and she gets no help.  But, the McCaans get thousands of pounds spent in the hunt for their daughter.  It really makes no sense to me.

It's clear they have no leads

Of course they do, they know full well who did it.

They just dont have enough evidence to put them both away for murder.

With that case we know he ended up in the landfill site but with everything rotting away it will be difficult

It is beyond ridiculous now, to throw more money at this search.

If Madeleine is alive now, would she really want two strangers taking her to a foreign land, away from her family and friends?  No.

So..... if they don’t have enough evidence.... how do they “know full well”?  If they knew, after all this time they would be able to prove it.  Because in order to know, you have to have proof. Otherwise, it is just assumption, bias and lazy investigators.

Or watching the video replays of their interviews and catching them smiling - duping glee.

£11.5 million and come up with nothing.

Meanwhile we have an NHS in crisis and the highest number of homeless people sleeping rough ever recorded.

What other line of work can could you use that amount of money and have zero results.
