Light is a wave propagating through ether much like sound waves propagating through air/water/land mediums. Light is not something that exists by itself like a house, or a tree. Even in the dark the tree and house still remain detectable by other senses (touch, taste etc). Light does not exist in this way. Where does the light go when you turn your light bulb off? You really think photons are being created when you excite the gas in the bulb? Its a field, this is clear when you look at a streetlight at night where the ground below is illuminated but the area further away is not. It is not photons losing energy the further from the source, it is the area of the field. Particle theory in time will be replaced by wave theory and the particle wave duality nonsense can finally end. Well you know we tried out the ether and discarded it when no test could show that it was there. We tried an exclusively wave theory first too. People didn't like the particle theory when it came along but had to live with it. Einstein and Bohr spent most of their lives arguing about the nature of reality. At this point, we are stuck with particles and waves. Einstein wanted a whole new concept to come along. So far it hasn't materialized. We can;t go back to exclusively waves, it just didn't tally wit reality and experimental results. Read up on 1900-1930 in physics for a wild ride. It is not both, light has only been proven to be a wave..the double slit experiment proved this. The double slit makes much more sense when you realize its a wave the entire time. They cannot actually take a particle or photon, and shoot it. They can do no such thing. They have never even observed a particle. These particle accelerators are assumed to be colliding particles because they start with the premise that the light rays they are using are made of particles. They should be called wave colliders. I see where you are trying to go. You are looking to go forward not into the past. To do that, you need to come up with an explanation for all effects that appear to be particles and replicate them with waves. You would have to throw out quantum mechanics and relativity and start with something else. For example: What happens when waves collide? Usually waves interfere. Do they bounce off each other and ricochet off in different directions as experiments tend to repeat time after time? How is a wave affected by a magnetic field? There is a lot you would have to explain with more than assertions. I wish you luck. I think something needs to be done. Myself, I view particles as knots in spacetime and waves as ripples, but I don't have near enough math to do more than tell my friends about it over a beer.
ArcherSage Posted November 24, 2017 #28 Share Posted November 24, 2017 (edited) Thats a good idea. Perhaps particles and waves are two sides of the same coin. But the standard accepted model of how the universe works is always changing. The gravity only cosmology as the main acting force upon which everything formed is quickly changing. As for your questions about waves interfering, yes they interfere but also can bounce off of things. All things have a resonance, waves can phase through other things because of the difference of resonance between the two objects. What makes more sense that gamma "rays" can penetrate solid things (particles going through particles), or waves phasing through other waves. The vibrating /oscillating wave makes the most sense. It is amazing how our body is built around certain wave types. Your body literally creates vitamin D from UV wave lengths. In essence, your body perceives reality based on how it interprets waves. From the cones in your eyes converting waves into electric signals, to your ears converting sound waves into electric signals. Your body absorbs and converts waves into perception Edited November 24, 2017 by ArcherSage
