Why was I shown these places?

I don't know what happened to me but I can't shake these feelings and thoughts so I thought I would share it with you in hopes that one of you may have a answer. I had a Astral travel dream ( I didn't know there was a term till i found this site.) where I left my body and left my house and was pulled just above earths orbit. I had no control on how I got so high or how I stopped suddenly but when I did I watched as the Earth began to spin under me until I knew I wasn't above my home country anymore. When I got to a certain point the planet stopped moving and I plummeted back to earth only to find that I was in a courtyard of a French Castle. Ive never been to France or Europe for that matter but it felt like I knew the place inside and out and as I was enjoying a walk around the courtyard I was pulled back out of orbit. Again the planet spun around below me but this time I was brought down in a Valley somewhere in China where I was surrounded by mountains and the only way I was able to distinguish where I was was because of  a staircase that was carved into the mountain side. Again it felt like I knew the area well when in fact I've never left North America and like last time I was pulled back out of orbit before anything became clear to me. unable to comprehend what was actually going on I called out "whats the significance of these locations?" when what appeared to be a demon appeared before me telling me to meditate before it sent me back home to earth.

I was awake when this happened to me and was aware that I left my body but had no control as to how to get back to my body it was like a slow free fall and when I finally did return I had awoken with a shortness of breath and in complete awe of what Ive just been through. My girlfriend who was reading in the bed next to me didn't notice any differences in me during the 5 minutes of my out of body experience and was just as confused as I was when trying to explain what just happened. I like to think of myself as a logical person and I'm just flabbergasted as to what occurred that day and I'm still looking for answers...

Hi there and welcome to UM.

I would take a look at the following to see if this could be what you experienced:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypnagogia

I once dozed off in a chair whilst watching TV.  I woke up and shouted, at the top of my voice "This is the final roll call and NO, those tickets ARE NOT VALID".  I was aware that I had just said it but couldn't for the life of me work out what I meant or why I said it.

In a sense you have answered your question yourself  Your subconscious has told you to look inside yourself to work out why those  particular places.        "telling me to meditate"

No one else can help, and you might have trouble working it out, but if you open your mind and reflect back on everything you did, read, viewed, talked about and even THOUGHT about in the couple of days before the  experience you may make a connection.

It might be interesting to think about what the two locations, which are so different spatially, have in common, in your mind.

ps work on conscious control of direction and movement and, next time you have this experience, try to take control

One hint.  try locating these places on a map or globe  for example by using google earth or just googling and see if they, for example, line up along your own line of latitude.  If your consciousness moved above the earth, and the earth rotated, then you would travel along a line of latitude before coming back down again.

Both of those images have appeared lately on my wifes screensaver which she had downloaded from some site specialising in unusual photos of the world.   It could be as simple as you seeing something like that, without it consciously registering

Is that a ladder? A 1,640-foot-long stepped path opened in Guangdong, southern China, on September 27. It scales a vertiginous cliff-face

I tried to find these places on google earth like you suggested and you were right I lined up with France on the same latitude. I lined up with China too but it was in the northern reaches of there border. I have tried racking my brain to see if there was anything unusual I did leading up to the event and haven't found any link yet. (I only watch certain shows on my pvr and use only one computer and have reread the same books I was reading at the time and had no luck)

I am still a little uncertain about the meditating part for one I've never done it before and I still feel a little uneasy about trying it considering where I heard it from but Im thankful for the help any other tips you have are greatly appreciated.

I also spent a lot of time contemplating what my first out of body experience was all about. Sometimes weird things just happen in those states. Though I do find it interesting you landed in real possible locations by just watching the earth spin beneath you.

Do you have out of body experiences often?

Welcome to UM,

If you are really a logical person, then logic would tell you that it was just a dream.

If you had really never heard of ‘astral travel’, and really want to get sucked in, go ahead!

But as I’ve said on other threads, there’s no evidence of astral travel, and if it were real then it would be very easy to prove.

You would simply need to detail exact circumstances which put your ‘astral body’ in a certain time and place in which there would have been no way possible for you to have known the details any other way.

Have you even had such an experience Timonthy?

I have vivid dreams most nights and lucid dreams every other night. Some so real that it takes me a while to work out if what I dreamt was actually real, or part of a dream. But astral travel, of course not.

Although I'm sure that there are a bunch of people on UM who would think they astral travelled/predicted the future etc. if they had my dreams.

Oh no, forgive me. I not asking if you actually astral traveled. I'm more asking have you ever had a experience that others might call astral travel? The classic feeling of getting up out of body, then going about your business while "out".

That's awesome that you are able to lucid dream that often. Really vivid lucid dreams can feel just like what folks call astral travel. And it may turn out to be the very same thing. Really the only thing to me that separates the two is how you got there. Well there are a couple other things, but that is the main point. I know Ive had experiences starting with vibrations, and never losing consciousness where it felt like I rose right up out of my body. Or even physically rolled right off the bed. These experiences felt so real, that even if I knew for 100% sure that it was a lucid dream, I could still understand how someone who had the same experience would disagree with me. Would think it was real.

ETA

Oh wait, in my original post to you I meant to say ever, not even. I honestly didn't mean to sound confrontational about it.

Haha, okay. I’ll strive to post something and let you know. They generally are influenced by every day life mashed together with whatever sci-fi or fantasy stuff I’ve been watching/playing plus whatever else in between, just for a little preview. I’ll wait for a good one.

Ah well it was worth a shot.

I don't meditate and never have, but i do use a few techniques to try and extract information from my subconscious One includes letting your mind free associate ie naturally jump from one thought to another without conscious direction. This can sometimes bring results.

I also look for symbolic links between real life events and dreams because often what we encounter in a dream is a symbolic not realistic representation of something we encountered while awake  Thus a castle might not actually represent a castle but a place of refuge or safety or a response to a threat  Stairs might not represent real stairs but a difficult/challenging progress upwards or downwards in your life

Astral travel is quite difficult to prove because it involves travelling on the astral plane, however projecting your consciousness is quite easy to prove/demonstrate, because it involves travelling out of your body in real time to real places  You can either check your discoveries on the internet OR arrange a test observation of   another person or people

here is my most interesting example

30 years ago, as a  teacher of senior students in a small school in southern Australia, there was a canadian exchange student in my class.

She told me about her home which was on a small piece of land outside a town in rural canada.

One night i projected my consciousness from Australia to canada  Once in Canada I followed roads and railway lines i had  previously checked on a map, to locate her home town.  I flew out to her home and   I then hovered over it, observing for about ten minutes just memorising everything i could see..

Then i flew down to an old wood barn about 20 metres from the house. it had no doors, just a big opening on one end   There was a tarp covered object  in the   barn and i looked under the tarp to discover a beautiful 50s cadillac  in quite good condition. It was red and white with lots of fins and chrome etc .

Anyway, next day at school, i sat down with the student and began to describe her home. I had it exactly right from  the surrounding farmland and crops to the roof line, the cladding,  the small  entry room at the front entrance, the shingle roof etc., and the old wooden barn, also with a wood shingle roof.  She was both enthralled and a bit worried i think but then i described the car under the tarp, and she just fell apart  As she told me, this was a graduation present from her father, and when she got back to canada they were going to fully restore it.

I had all the details perfect  even though i really didnt know what sort of car it was at the time until she told me the make and year.     Eventually she whispered to me "That is impossible  for you to have known. There is no one in australia who knows about tha t car's existence, let alone its location in the old barn under the tarp, waiting for me to get back home"

This is pretty much exactly the car i saw and described, although it wasn't quite as pristine, and was  a bit dusty and  "worn".

Hi, CloudS7

Welcome aboard.

Just a few notes, briefly.

Disclaimer: I don't interpret other people's dreams, but some dream motifs and characters are dreamt by many people, and I sometimes recognize those motifs and characters. I might be able to tell you what several people who have dreamt dreams like yours have thought about their dreams, but only you can decide whether that has anything to do with your personal dream.

Personally, I wouldn't get too bogged down in the specific locations you visited. I also would distinguish between a dream of "leaving your body" and a dream of seeing the whole Earth from outer space (although I appreciate that the latter loosely implies the former).

I mean really - doesn't "a mountain with a stairway" get your imagination going? And the French style of palatial architecture was probably consciously intended by its makers to energize the imagination (what God could do if he had money).

The nub is here:

Quote

I called out "whats the significance of these locations?" when what appeared to be a demon appeared before me telling me to meditate before it sent me back home to earth.

That's an invitation. Meditation is a good thing, and you may wish to check out shadow work jung. Don't let the source (what you think about that dream character) put you off.

My guess is that you'll be thinking about this dream for a long time. You'll be glad then if you write down as much detail about the dream (and the investigation you've done since, too) as you can, now, while the details are still fresh. If you do any creative or artistic things (write songs, draw pictures, etc.) you might use those media to express what you think and feel about the dream.

Well dreamt.

Well it would have been nice for all of that to have been documented before the fact.

I find it pretty frustrating really. It’s the same as the posts from people who say they’re 100% experiencing whatever, they get suggestions to set up a camera or some other simple way to prove it and they say they will, then nothing.

Again, it should be so easy to prove.

So can you document it next time? It would really be a breakthrough for humanity.

Edit: I’m just one of those people who need more than belief.
