Airbus takes majority stake in Bombardier jet

#45 administration increased the import taxes for Canadian Bombardier C-series jets by 300% with the aim to kick Bombardier out of the US aircraft market, to the benefit of BOEING. Nice try, but sorry no banana Mr. President, as the boomerang hit you neck painfully.

Quote

European group joins Canadian multinational’s C-series programme, with ‘win-win’ deal potentially saving 1,000 jobs in Belfast.

European aircraft giant Airbus is taking a majority stake in Bombardier’s controversial C-Series jet programme, potentially safeguarding 1,000 jobs in Belfast.

The French-based plane maker is acquiring 50.1% of the programme, the future of which was left in doubt after Canadian company Bombardier was hit by a 300% import levy by the United States. The huge tariff followed a complaint from Boeing that the company had dumped its C-Series jets at “absurdly low” prices.

(...)

Airbus is hoping to solve the problem posed by the tariffs by assembling the C-Series jets destined for US customers at its own factory in Alabama.

The Guardian

He can make deals? No, he cant.

Soooo.......This increase in manufacturing jobs in Alabama to avoid tariffs by a foreign owned company is a defeat for Trump exactly how?

As a side note I am a big fan of Can-am (name used in the USA for Bombardier) off road vehicles and if the jets are as high quality as their other vehicles they're probably awesome.

Belfast isnt a C-jet A/C assembly location but there is, e.g., wing production. #45`s defeat is that he tried to blow the C-jets from the US market to strengthen Boeing. When the C-jets get assembled in Alabama, no 300% import duties/taxes can be charged so the A/Cs can be sold on the US market, in competition to Boeing. Thats the very simple math of economics that Mr. IQ75 dont grasp because its too difficult for him to understand as its a little more than to buy and sell a real estate. Of course, the A/C assembly in Alabama is to the benefit of the US job market but the cash flow by sold A/Cs will not be kept in the US and, will not be generated by Boeing, which was the moronic plan of #45.

he actual made a great deal,  he created jobs in usa,    but trump hating disease  sure can and does eat ones brain out.

He tells you that he created jobs but thats nonsense and you eat it. Do your homework, genius, and take a look at the 10y US employment statistics. There is a steady increase of jobs since 2009, so do you think he is responsible for the increase in 2017?

With very little research it's easy to find out that the tariff was set at such a ridiculously high rate because bombardier's prices were very low due to government subsidies.  Why a private American corporation should be expected to compete with a company being subsidized by foreign taxes in the USA makes no sense so in this case I am in complete agreement with a tariff that on the surface may appear unfair but upon further examination serves to level the field.

Now the takeaway you foreign citizens who pay taxes to subsides multi-billion dollar corporations can have is this:  Your tax dollars will now be used to pay American workers in Alabama just so some very rich people can get even richer with little to no risk to themselves.

But Trump is the idiot, not you.

Just to be clear... the C series Bombardier is NOT in competition with any Boeing aircraft at all because Boeing do not, and have no long term plans to produce an aircraft in this class. The tariff was rightly imposed (IMO) because Canada and UK payments to Bombardier did amount to a subsidy. Add to that the USA Govt subsidising through payment to Black Projects that Boeing run, then you have all the makings of a Trade War... will be interesting to see what happens in the coming months

Is that true?  Keep in mind that Boeing is still manufacturing 737's, but I remember that you have vastly greater knowledge in this field than I do.

a.) The 737-700NG has a similar setup like the Bombardier CS100 and CS300 series, so there is a direct and strong competition.

b.) Do we know of a short range A/C pipeline project of Boeing that would be endangered by the CS100 and CS300 series? Its possible.
