The Death of Net Neutrality

Well i may not have been...

Again life went on before the net and i have one outside of the internet ;)

Sure. What about all the web developers and businesses that couldn't operate without the internet? Should they just be ignored?

Why do people find it so difficult to sympathise with a problem that they believe does not directly affect them?

This s*** didn't even exist until a few years ago...

Hell in my opening post i said it was a good thing,i don't see the need of the excessive whining and b****ing about something that very likely isn't over and done with yet anyways!

Complaining about this to someone like me,is about the same as me complaining about the price of bread in Scotland...

There's no reasoning with those who don't have a heart for those who suffer.

I've become convinced in my discussions with these Trump supporters that it has less to nothing to do with not understanding how much these policies hurt innocent people, and more to do with the fact they don't care that it does. And there's no reasoning with apathy.

Did you skip the part in kindergarten when they taught you that kindness and empathy towards others, and sharing with those who are less fortunate then you was a good thing?

Yes, and Comcast throttled Netflix until Netflix agreed to pay for higher bandwidth - which was basically extortion - and this is what, as far as I'm aware, lead to Net Neutrality being introduced as law. There was a clear cause and effect relationship. The law didn't just come out of nowhere. An abuse of power lead to a law being created, which is the reason for the creation of many laws.

As is evident in my only other post in this thread. Canada did not have net neutrality until people raised enough of a stink that it forced the Government to act. Greedy ISPs (Internet Service Providers) throttled and controlled internet speeds as they saw fit because there was no oversight preventing them from doing so. The general rule of thumb with big corps is "if they can get away with it, they will try it."

'that didn't work?'

Work to do what exactly? This isn't a game. The only goal I'm working toward is in reasoning with you.

I'm only trying to reason with you, but the problem doesn't seem to be in your ability to understand. You keep acknowledging the situation but insist you don't care. You don't care how it affects others, and only care about policies that affect you. That's essentially what you keep saying.

If that's the case then there is no reasoning with you since the problem lies in your ability to empathize with others, rather than to understand their hardships.

Let's not make this about politics because, apart from the GOP, this transcends political lines. Citizens in general agree with Net Neutrality.

Also, I don't think that @CrimsonKing is a Trump supporter. A dirty conservative by the looks of things, yeah, but not a Trump supporter  (Couldn't resist).

If you don't care about this subject and clearly have nothing productive to offer to the discussion, then why do you keep posting? At this point all you're doing is flame-baiting.

Ideally the free market would allow for a new ISP that ran on a platform of "no throttling". However, because the big 3 (Bell, Telus, Rogers,) have a monopoly on the market, that needed competition isn't able to surface. Hence the need for the Gov't to step in and regulate.

You're right. Thanks.

I've gotten in trouble here before by speaking my mind on politics. Gots some rather strong opinions towards opposition.

So you're right, I'll refrain.

There's a method to my madness and a point I'm making.
