Still Waters Posted December 18, 2017 #1 Share Posted December 18, 2017 Artefacts from an 18th Century coffee shop have been found in a disused cellar at the University of Cambridge. Clapham's operated in the mid-to-late 1700s on a site now owned by St John's College, and the discovery of more than 500 relics has shed light on it. Craig Cessford, of the Cambridge Archaeological Unit, called it an "18th Century Starbucks" but admitted it was more like an inn by modern standards. The 500 artefacts include drinking vessels for tea, coffee and chocolate. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-cambridgeshire-42395113
kmt_sesh Posted December 21, 2017 #2 Share Posted December 21, 2017 That's really fun. I love the pipes in the photo and wonder if the business sold them right there. Some of the dishes are very pretty. Still Waters, if for some reason you and I meet up in Cambridge one day, let's stop for some tea there. I'd say coffee, but I'm not crazy about coffee.

Most inns did in the U.S. They clay ones were cheap disposables.
