Nancy Posted September 14, 2003 #1 Share Posted September 14, 2003 This is a first for me, actually asking for those who visit this Topic to send positive "vibes" to those of us who make the East Coast of the USA home. We will need all the help we can get. I'm certain that we have Members here who could/will be affected. Thank You. Sunday , September 14, 2003 MIAMI — Hurricane Isabel weakened slightly Sunday but was still a powerful Category 4 storm as it plowed across the Atlantic Ocean on a course that could slam it into the central East Coast late this week. "It's looking more and more likely that this is going to be a big event for the eastern United States," National Hurricane Center (search) meteorologist Eric Blake said Sunday. Computer models predict that weather conditions over the East Coast should prevent Isabel from turning back out to sea and missing land, hurricane specialist Stacy Stewart said. "Landfall along the U.S. mid-Atlantic coast somewhere between North Carolina and New Jersey between four or five days [Thursday or Friday] is appearing more and more likely," Stewart said. "Little or no significant weakening is expected to occur until after landfall occurs." http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,97241,00.html http://vortex.plymouth.edu/hur_dir/hur_pos_nt3.html http://www.expage.com/page/geogjogwx http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/
Cufflink Posted September 14, 2003 #2 Share Posted September 14, 2003 Why DO they name so many storms with girl's names? A thread in the making... With the exception of a really nasty one back in the late eighties, we don't seem to get that many big storms in the UK. There's a joke over here that Americans always have to do everything bigger and better than we Britons. It's no laughing matter if you got something like this coming your way, though. Fasten everything down, and tell friends with hair-pieces to remain indoors. Stay safe, Nancy.
Nancy Posted September 15, 2003 Author #3 Share Posted September 15, 2003 Cufflink, thanks for the good wishes, I'm doing my best! The sad part? I'm moving this coming Tuesday (against my will ) to a "tin can" here in Florida. Must be why they are called "Mobile Homes" As of now? It seems Southern Florida may just get ......... lucky. By the way? Here is a LINK for Hurricane Names. You'll see the sex alters from Male to Female. Wait, does that sound right? Ok, let's try.... the names alternate from gender to gender. http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/aboutnames.shtml 2003 : Ana Bill Claudette Danny Erika Fabian Grace Henri Isabel Juan Kate Larry Mindy Nicholas Odette Peter Rose Sam Teresa Victor Wanda

Nancy Posted September 15, 2003 Author #5 Share Posted September 15, 2003 Snuffy? Yep, the US Weather Bureau (or some other agency full of red tape) announces the upcoming Hurricane Names for each year, just prior to the official start of Hurricane Season June 1st. Thanks for the good wishes..... Looks like the Mid-Atlantic could be hit badly... Sighhhhhh....

I can't help wondering if there is a certain level of excitement in the air . I mean when NZ had the recent earthquake, people were buzzing about it for weeks afterwards ... Any way one more positive vibe .The Australian's and the Kiwi's have a saying that goes something like this ......... "She'll be right mate " Take care Nancy ,I'll be thinking of you

Nancy Posted September 19, 2003 Author #11 Share Posted September 19, 2003 This blonde is very touched over your concern. Fortunately, South Florida (where I reside) was spared. Unfortunately, most of several East Coast states are in deep trouble. Extensive flooding, power still out to millions, wind damage. Someone, somewhere was watching over the US. Isabel was a Cat 5 (highest possible) and when she hit the Coast, she had calmed down to a Cat 2 (still very potent!) This nasty "lady" was the size of the state of Colorado! Good Grief! I have one favor. Please send those 'vibes' toward Spacey KC! She is more than likely still without power and possibly flooded, I have not heard from her. We email daily and she let me know before Isabel struck, she had made arrangements for her beloved cats and dogs, and of course, for herself. Still, considering the amount of severe damage in her area, I am veryyyyyyyyyyy worried. End of speech~ Thank you all, very much!

Nancy Posted September 20, 2003 Author #15 Share Posted September 20, 2003 Breaking News Alert!!!!!!!!!! I've heard from KC!!!!!! She is still "powerless" and may be for "week's to come" Her hubby was able to get a generator, so she quickly left me a note. Seems no direct damage to her home, but dozens of old and beautiful trees around her are "kaput".......... Considering the alternative? KC is doing well, and hanging TUFF!!! Yahoooooooooo!!! Agent 21? Yes, she is a very dear friend.

SpaceyKC Posted September 29, 2003 #24 Share Posted September 29, 2003 Hi everyone! Wow, it's so good to be back (even temporarily) The neighborhood still has trees and debris to get cleared out, but we just got power back, so many stages to cover still. I have really missed everyone here, and I appreciate the good vibes everyone sent me ~ THANKS TO NANCY, my very good friend! And Homey, he was so worried. I hope everyone else came through it in good health, and that their friends will be in contact with them soon. Thank you again to everyone for their concern and care, I really missed being here. Looks like I have a lot of catching up to do!
