Sensing Plants – the Backster Effect

Recommended Posts

Fascinating thread. I should have found this place sooner.

It's long been obvious that there's much more to plants than "simple"

photosynthesis. This seems to apply to all living things and is the reason

I consider consciousness to be an inherant trait of all life.

An oak tree and a man share about 50% of the same DNA sequences.

Why should they be so totally alien to one another?

There is a great deal of communication taking place in the natural world

of which we are unaware. Many animals are much more aware of such

things than we are. I wouldn't say this makes them more conscious, just

that each type of animal lives in a different world and there are significant

individual differences even within species.

Water responds the same way as well...I read a book on it but I forget what it was titled. I'll look it up when I'm feeling less lazy :)

I don't think that the plants has as complex emotions as humans, but I do think that they record and absorb any energy around them, bad or good.

You mean homeopathy??

:D Not only are Orchids beautiful...they are smart... manipulative!!!!!

:tu:

Orchids are known to exploit an association with plants with similar flowers, and pyramidal orchids are among the most successful of these 'cheats' of the plant world. They set more seed in habitats where they associate with red-flowered plants. They also indulge in mimicry to deceive insect visitors into searching for food when in fact the cupboard is bare - a strategy that avoids expending energy on food production.

It became clear that the hoverflies were strongly attracted to the nectarless orchid flowers. But why were the insects behaving in such a frenzied way when there were more nectar-rich flowers nearby?

Sexual attraction?

Could there be a sexual motive? Some orchids produce a pheromone-like substance that acts as a sex-attractant, a strategy adopted by several orchid species. This may be the cunning ploy adopted by the pyramidal orchid, whose odour was described as 'foxy' by Charles Darwin. Indeed, this fits with the observations of other scientists who have reported that male hoverflies often gather in groups when they have mating in mind and generally emerge before the females in spring. Possibly we observed the pyramidal orchids exploiting inexperienced males early in the season, before female insects emerged and offered a more attractive alternative.

Our observations of hoverflies visiting three different species of orchids in northern Cyprus led us to suspect that hoverflies may be important pollinators of orchids.

Pollinators of old

Records of hoverflies visiting and pollinating British orchids date back to Charles Darwin, who recorded their pollination of heath spotted orchid Dactylorhiza maculata and common spotted orchid D. fuchsii. Hoverflies have also been recorded pollinating the common twayblade Listera ovata.

Since hoverflies resemble bees and wasps, it's quite possible that they may pollinate several British orchids but have not been observed or correctly identified - once again proving that there are still many discoveries out there waiting to be made.

Well some experiments with plants etc show that they send out warnings to other plants...so that they can alter chemically to repell insects...etc....

http://www.learnmindpower.com/Pages/consci...ess-plants.html

n safari several years earlier where a game ranger pointed out a species of tree that not only reacted to animals eating its leaves, but transmitted signals to other trees of the same species as well. It seems that these particular leaves were very delicate and tasty favourites of the giraffe. So whenever a family of giraffes would begin eating them, within 15 minutes the taste of the leaves would turn sour. What was so interesting, however, was that it was not only the leaves on that particular tree that turned sour, but the leaves on all the identical trees within a half-mile radius! The tree whose leaves were being eaten was able to somehow communicate with the other trees in the area and warn of impending danger.

Does this suggest that plants have consciousness?

It would appear so, and this conclusion is not so out of place considering that many cultures believe absolutely in the power of communicating with plants.

http://www.csmonitor.com/2005/0303/p01s03-usgn.html

To a growing number of biologists, the fact that plants are now known to challenge and exert power over other species is proof of a basic intellect.

"If intelligence is the capacity to acquire and apply knowledge, then, absolutely, plants are intelligent," agrees Leslie Sieburth, a biologist at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City.

For philosophers, one of the key findings is that two cuttings, or clones, taken from the same "mother plant" behave differently even when planted in identical conditions.

"We now know there's an ability of self-recognition in plants, which is highly unusual and quite extraordinary that it's actually there," says Dr. Trewavas. "But why has no one come to grips with it? Because the prevailing view of a plant, even among plant biologists, is that it's a simple organism that grows reproducibly in a flower pot."

Hormesis

The effects of microdoses have been known for a long time, and there are a number of examples that support the idea that very diluted concentrations of a substance will have a measurable and sometimes profound effect. Scientists call this phenomenon: hormesis.

Scientists from Michigan State University have shown how hormesis work in nature. They used microdoses of a fertilizer to stimulate crop production. In a dose equivalent to a 9x dilution, the fertilizer increased tomato yield by 30 percent, carrots were 21 percent bigger, and corn yield increased by 25 percent.

Our own bodies secrete minute amounts of hormones that have powerful effects. Thyroid hormone is present in our blood at only 1 part per 10 billion-yet this is enough to regulate the rate of our entire metabolism. Many animal studies show that low doses of some substances elicit a beneficial response while high doses are harmful. This phenomenon has been documented to occur with radiation, antibiotics, and heavy metals.

Pheromones

Pheromones are powerful aromatic hormone-like substances that creatures secrete to attract one another. One molecule of moth pheromone is so potent, it will attract another moth from miles away and trigger a cascade of physical reactions. Though well documented, the exact mechanism for pheromones remains unknown.

Homeopathic Remedies Work in Spiritual/Energy Plane and Not in Physical Plane

Homeopathic remedies are believed to work in the spiritual plane as opposed to the physical plane as we are used to think and measure. Hahnemann believed that dilution and succussion released a spirit- like power that worked on the spiritual level of the vital force in humans. We are familiar with the formerly invisible, immeasurable, unknowable energy forms, such as electromagnetic radiation and subatomic particles. Magnets exerted their force long before science could explain the mechanism. Physicists are still trying to explain gravity and the nature of matter, still discovering phenomena such as the "strong force" and the "weak force."

B):tu: Some interesting new research on this... it actually has a name...!!! it's called... PSYCHOBOTANY

http://www.psychobotany.com/overview.htm

Even though it currently seems difficult to maintain clear lines of communication within our own species, perhaps the notion of psychobotany can help to radically rearrange the way we think about communication in the first place. It may complicate matters for vegetarians, but expanding our capacity to communicate with other life-forms could plant the seed for a whole new breed of ecological alliance.

The Secret Life of Plants: Documentation of collaborative audio-video-performance sequences created for the feature film.

An account by Richard Lowenberg:

"In 1976, the producer (Michael Braun) and the director (Walon Green) of a feature film in-the-making, The Secret Life of Plants, arranged for a creative collaboration between myself, based in the San Francisco Bay Area, and John Lifton, from London. John and I had been in touch on our shared creative backgrounds (architecture + AI) and creative interests (electronic arts and bio-sensing) since my visit to the UK the previous year. John had recently presented his very sophisticated, new audio/installation, "Green Music" at the Whitechapel Gallery, in London. I had been doing a project series, titled "Bio-Dis-Plays", with NASA technical support (multi-channel bio-telemetry systems), monitoring performers physiology (EEG, EMG, EKG, etc.) as inputs to audio and video synthesizers, in extended biofeedback-media artworks. At the time I often collaborated with Jim Wiseman, video synthesizer artist, as well as with a number of electronic music composers. I had just begun working with Tom Zahuranec, who was an audio technician at Mills College, and had been doing (GSR/Backster Effect) plant-audio synthesis interface works since 1972.

Christopher Bird, co-author of the book, The Secret Life of Plants, and I had corresponded, and in addition to putting the filmmakers in touch, he recommended that I meet Henry Dakin, in San Francisco. Henry had a building on Washington Street, in Pacific Heights, housing his independent Washington Research Center. He offered his help and his basement lab facilities, which included a large Faraday cage/room and electronic equipment, for creative and technical development of sequences that we would prepare for The Secret Life of Plants film. Ultimately, two plant-music on location sequences were scripted/created, to be included in the film.

Over the course of four days in June 1976, while open to the public, six large plants in the center of the glass Plant Conservatory in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park (modeled on Kew Gardens, in London), produced an audible, live musical score, based on simple bio-electric sensing of their responses to light, temperature, movement and other physio-environmental factors (gold needle electrodes at the base of the stem/root). This was John Lifton's new variation of his "Green Music" composition. Amid the 'tropical'garden stood a five foot high rack of audio and digital processing systems, including the just purchased, Altair 8800, which John was constantly (re)programming (Machine Language). The film crew did their set-ups and shot sequences as needed over the few days.

In July, the production moved to a large sound stage (World Stage) in Los Angeles, for a more elaborate performance sequence which we had designed/composed. The choreographed audio and video performance would build incrementally, from one plant up to six monitored plants, while adding from one to six dancers wearing EEG and EMG sensor/transmitters.

......... a sound track by Stevie Wonder becoming its legacy.

'Telepathic' Genes Recognize Similarities In Each Other

http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2008/...80124103151.htm

The authors of the new study carried out a series of experiments in order to test the theory, first developed in 2001 by two members of this team, that long pieces of identical double-stranded DNA could identify each other merely as a result of complementary patterns of electrical charges which they both carry. They wanted to verify that this could indeed occur without physical contact between the two molecules, or the facilitating presence of proteins.

Previous studies have suggested that proteins are involved in the recognition process when it occurs between short strands of DNA which only have about 10 pairs of chemical bases. This new research shows that much longer strands of DNA with hundreds of pairs of chemical bases seem able to recognise each other as a whole without protein involvement. According to the theory, this recognition mechanism is stronger the longer the genes are.

The researchers observed the behaviour of fluorescently tagged DNA molecules in a pure solution. They found that DNA molecules with identical patterns of chemical bases were approximately twice as likely to gather together than DNA molecules with different sequences.

Professor Alexei Kornyshev from Imperial College London, one of the study's authors, explains the significance of the team's results: "Seeing these identical DNA molecules seeking each other out in a crowd, without any external help, is very exciting indeed. This could provide a driving force for similar genes to begin the complex process of recombination without the help of proteins or other biological factors. Our team's experimental results seem to support these expectations."

The secret electromagnetic life of plants

http://www.cogreslab.co.uk/plants.asp

In collaboration with Sir Oliver Lodge Newman tested the system in an eight hectare (20 acres) installation at Evesham, reporting 24-39 percent increases in wheat grain yields, which also produced a superior flour. The universities were not slow to investigate these early successes, and studies at Bristol, Leeds and London University all appeared to confirm the effect. This gave rise to the Electroculture Committee, established by the Board of Agriculture and Fisheries in 1918. Tests at Rothhamstead used field strengths of 20kV. with wires spaced between 1.5 and 11 metres apart and hanging from wooden posts 2-4.5 metres above the plants. These trials established that the treatment was most effective when given at an early stage in the growing period.

At this point politics seems to have reared its ugly head: of the 18 reports on electroculture prepared by the scientists involved, only three were published, the remainder marked "not for publication" were seen by only a restricted audience. Their absence from the literature led people to believe that the trials had not been successful, and by the late 1930s interest in electroculture had largely evaporated, partly due to a lack of any conceptual framework to account for the increased productivity. US trials had, moreover been unable to replicate the UK successes, possibly because they had used autumn wheat rather than the spring wheat usedin the British trials. The work of the British Electroculture Committee ceased in 1937.

More recently there is some evidence that exposure to electromagnetic fields has a beneficial effect on plant growth via photoperiodism. L.E. Murr in 1963 published a study in nature reporting plant growth in response to electric field exposure, and A.P. Krueger, a pioneer in the beneficial effects of negative ions on human health, proposed a mechanism of air-ion induced growth stimulation in the International Journal of Biometeorology the same year.

I am conscious that it is not possible to do justice here to the immense body of literature which has quietly accumulated on the exposure of plants to electric and magnetic fields, and indeed the emerging research on the fields emanating from them. Given that plants are the only means whereby solar radiation is converted into the starch and sugars which are an indispensable requirement of organic life, and against a background where conventional fertilisers are failing in their objective, such research is long overdue for publication.

It is not generally known that mitochondria in animals constitute nearly half the dry weight of our bodies, and that furthermore these mitochondria have their own quite separate DNA and genetic code, as if once they were a completely separate life form. When it comes to survival, we are almost totally in the hands of the mitochondria inside our cells, and each cell might contain as much as a thousand mitochondria. For these at least some regulatory intercommunication might be useful.[/sup]]

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_mitochondrial_genetics

Human mitochondrial genetics is the study of the genetics of the DNA contained in human mitochondria. Mitochondria are small structures in cells that generate energy for the cell to use, and are hence referred to as the "powerhouses" of the cell.

Mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) is not transmitted through nuclear DNA (nDNA), and in most multicellular organisms, virtually all mitochondria are inherited from the mother's ovum, as it is unusual for sperm cells to contribute mitochondria when fertilising ova.[1]

:tsu:B) Hence it may be why 'Mediumship' or 'psychic ability' is said to be passed down thru the female line!!!

So maybe we need to study Human mitochondrial genetics to start exploring how the psychic ability telepathy works....

That's sure what it sounds like to me, honestly.

Of course they could totally ignore chemical cues, which are well known, all together couldn't they.

Chemical cues also resonate vibrationally...

http://www.soulsofdistortion.nl/dna3a.html

Food contains molecular compounds of amino acids, complex carbohydrate chains and various chemical elements, each having their own unique frequency or vibration. It is the vibrations of the nutrients that raise the vibrations of the body's tissue. Pesticide and chemical laden fruits and vegetables, as well as animal protein contaminated with antibiotics and growth hormones, have chaotic vibratory oscillations that act to derail the high coherence of our nutritional energy needs
Popp used highly sensitive light-measuring equipment to monitor the light emitted by living cells. He was able to confirm that living cells emit small bursts of light. He determined that cells do not just radiate light, they also absorb light. In fact, the storage time is relative to the quality of the cell. Therefore, a healthy cell will store light the longest, while an unhealthy cell will give off the light in a shorter time.
The most basic sub-molecular component of our body is made up of particles of light called biophotons. These biophotons, traveling at the speed of light, make up the electromagnetic frequency patterns that are found in every living organism. This matrix or field of frequency oscillations or resonance specificity provides the energetic switchboarding behind every cellular function, including DNA/RNA messengering. Cell membranes scan and convert signals into electromagnetic events as proteins within the cell's bi-layer change shape to vibrations of specific resonant frequencies.2 Every biochemical reaction is proceeded by an electromagnetic signal. Cells communicate both electromagnetically and chemically and create biochemical pathways that interconnect with all functions of the body.

It has been documented that DNA repair can be activated using a frequency of 528hz

http://www.nslij-genetics.org/dnamusic/

http://www.yourdnasong.com/

What is the history DNA music?

DNA music has been developed since the early 1970's when Geneticists found it easier to read the long strands of DNA code by assigning musical pitches to the 22 Amino Acids. This allowed them to compare DNA, look for mutations, and reverse engineer these tones back into proteins. This opened the way for more musical scientists to develop the system further until today where DNA music is now being taken very seriously by composers and musicians as a new form and medium of the music industry.

You may be interested in reading a new book called The Source Field Invesigations by David Wilcock. He discusses the Backster Effect in chapter 2, but the book as a whole is about this "Source field" around us, which physics is begining to prove exists, which can transmit thought, feelings, help you manipulate matter, basically, it is what allows all the psychic/metaphysical stuff poeple have been arguning about for years to happen. Its very interesting. Im only on chapter 3 but hooked already. Happy reading :tu:

I used to be able to see the energy of people, animals and plants. It wasn't auras, it was more like what you see with magnetic lines of flux. It's basically a bunch of lines coming out of an individual and going out in an arc with the other side connected to another part of the person. These lines would interact with one another and also with other individual's lines. Sometimes one person's lines would push the others lines away, other times they would be attracted to one another and sort of tangle up, and every once in a while they would combine and make both stronger (I am guessing this is the case for people that instantly really like each other and feel like they have known each other forever). People have a lot of these lines to where it almost looks like a doughnut with the person being the center. The same thing, to a much lesser extent, happened with plants. while there were a lot less lines of energy, they reached out a lot farther, or at least for trees. The smaller the plant, the less distance the lines would reach. The energy from the plants would connect with one another, just like with people. Due to health problems, pain and sleep problems, I've lost the ability but it was very interesting to see and made me realize that everything really is connected in one form or another. I do think that there is a not understood form of communication between plants, animals and people.

Personally seen this with trees. I've felt their field extend and open out like an umbrella as I have walked into it. One old oak near me I have seen extend out 50 yards or more. If you were to view this multi dimensionally then it would look like the dougnut you mention. The arcs are really full circle circuits going into the earth and back up. When they are more closed up their field extends upwards into a long narrow bandwidth, top to bottom. So yes they are actually very similar to the fields around humans too.

Yes, that is the same as what I have seen. If you look at how electricity flows through wire, and the magnetic field it causes, it is the same idea. Energy in motion causes a magnetic field and I think that is what I am (or we are) seeing. I am not 100% sure about this but who is ever 100% sure about stuff like this anyway?

Some more interesting research here...

How is water and consciousness tied together and related to humans and plants? One of the original pioneers in water consciousness studies, Dr. Marcel Vogel, determined that when bulk water was in the process of freezing, excess energy is extracted from the water .At this point, the molecules start to spin and link together in the pattern of a tetrahedron. Dr. Vogel also noted that, at this juncture, water develops a consciousness, 'a memory, a knowing of what they were designed to do (and) to be.' - See more at: http://www.whydontyoutrythis.com/2013/03/the-consciousness-of-water-and-plants.html#sthash.bOYu3jDE.dpuf

I am absolutely amazed here... how this new research will affect reality as we know it !!!

Plants Can Think and Remember

Recent research has uncovered that plants transmit information about light intensity and quality from leaf to leaf in a very similar way to the nervous system of human beings. In the experiment that found this, scientists showed that light shone on to one leaf caused the whole plant to respond and the response, which took the form of light-induced chemical reactions in the leaves, continued in the dark. This showed that the plant remembered the information encoded in light. Plants seem to be able to perform a sort of biological light computation, using information contained in the light to immunize themselves against diseases.

These "electro-chemical signals" are carried by cells that act as "nerves" of the plants. - See more at: http://www.whydontyo...E.V4bnZimY.dpuf

Well then, what are they vegetarians going to eat now???? You better keep this quiet... shhhh.....

I believe that is why the older generations often said " Grace" gave thanks for the food we eat... showing respect for the food we eat... If we show respect for the food we eat.. crops we pick... I gather they bless us with their version of "happy enzymes" .. if they feel threatened or disrespected.. their enzymes are more toxic... http://www.euromed.org.uk/plant-communication.html

Plants respond not only to insects and animals but to human emotion and intention. Plants can distinguish between people who are feel kindly towards them and people who don''t, and our green friends cooperate with people they like. In one experiment a new scientist came to study some test plants. Surprisingly, these test plants which previously had been very responsive, were completely non-responsive during the new scientist''s tests. Investigating the change in the plants'' response, it was discovered that the new scientist incinerated his plants in his own personal research once his tests were completed. Shortly after the new scientist left, the plants again began registering activity and cooperating.

In another study, scientists found that vegetation reacted negatively to people who found the plants unattractive, even to the extent that the plants would "faint." When over stimulated by emotions, plants will "go unconscious" or numb and can stay " moody" for weeks. Scientific studies show that once plants attune themselves to a particular person, they are able to maintain a link with that person, no matter how far away. These plants register "knowing" not only when a person is returning to the plants, but when the person makes the decision to return. Other reports show that plants respond to people talking to them in a caring, loving manner, such as asking a tree to radically change its growth direction so that it won''t have to be cut, or asking weeds not to grow excessively in a vegetable garden

Being an herbalist is a constant exercise in balance – with so much being given out in the work of helping others we also need the pleasure of finding and settling into our own nourishment. Because after all, if we can’t take care of ourselves, how can we possibly take care of others? Part of the joy of my work is in the sensory intimacy I have with the plants, the close-up looks at buds and rhizomes via sight, scent, touch and taste. On one hand, this is an absolutely essential way of understanding the nature of the plant, and on the other hand, it’s pure fun for me and my seeking senses.

When I find myself burned out from too many hours of website design, clinical case notes and pharmaceutical research, I unconsciously move toward more sensory centered activities involving the plants. I climb Juniper trees in the snow to get closer to the translucent ivory globes of Mistletoe fruits and rub Cypress resin between my fingers and revel in the spiced wood scent of it. I’m grateful that this sensual immersion in all things Plantae are an integral part of my work. I cannot imagine practicing herbalism without being grounded in the energetic tendencies of the plants communicated through the senses
