New ancient Egyptian timeline established

Radiocarbon dating and computer models have helped build up a new picture of Egypt's earliest days.
Up until now the precise chronology of ancient Egypt's beginnings has been based mostly on estimates, but thanks to a new research effort led by Dr Michael Dee from the University of Oxford a far more accurate timeline has now been developed.

Scientists have used a plethora of sophisticated analytical techniques to assign dates to a variety of ancient finds including hair and bone samples, slowly piecing together the timeline of Egypt's earliest days from which there are no written records.
The team discovered that the civilization of ancient Egypt would have developed far more rapidly than previously thought, a process that could have taken as little as 600 years. It has also been revealed that Egypt's ancestors would have settled along the river Nile several centuries later than thought, around 3700 to 3600 BC.

"The time period is shorter than was previously thought - about 300 or 400 years shorter," said Dr Dee. "Egypt was a state that emerged quickly - over that time one has immense social change."

I don't think it's fair to compare like that. I would say that once you reach a threshold in tecnology, which we reached quite recently, the progress will develop exponentially, up until then progress is much slower, I don't have time right now to develop my thoughts further, but I hope you understand what I mean. Zam Yes this was quantum leap. Big Bad Voodoo

And to think they did that without the help of Abnormal Aerialists. It would be interesting to see if there is evidence of an earlier civilization as Mr. Toledo suggests.

New timeline for origin of ancient Egypt Nice article Waspie_Dwarf. Although it's not really "new" information, particularly since the funerary boat of King Den (1st Dynasty - c.3000 BC) was found at Abu Rawash and 14 boats likely also of King Aha which were found at Abydos, it's good to see another level of support for what was a rather fascinating period of Egyptian history. http://english.ahram.org.eg/NewsContent/9/40/48641/Heritage/Ancient-Egypt/First-Dynasty-funerary-boat-discovered-at-Egypts-A.aspx http://xoomer.virgilio.it/francescoraf/hesyra/news.htm cormac

A lot can be accomplished in just three-hundred years.. The Egyptians had a fairly advanced priest-caste society for the age. Despite their obsession with death; which can be attributed to the unreliability of the Nile with it flooding, thus disrupting agriculture and leading to starvation.. Given their architectural achievements and their advancements in engineering, however, it makes them all the more impressive.

Immanuel Velikovski wrote that the present understanding of time lines was not correct. This may relate to his Ages in Chaos. Since, shorting the time interval means Egyptian Pharaohs were either fewer in number or had shorter reigns than presently dated. Fewer in number is possible and would make some interesting interactions with the Levant possible.

All three deal in lies and pseudo science.

While at first sight 10% does not look like a big change, on second thought that was the time span it took us from the industrial revolution to the computer age. It could have meant the difference from bronze casting to bronze forging, or from very brittle tools to pretty strong tools.

Velikovski was a charlatan.... But useful, as in "Citing Bellesiles on history is like citing Velikovski on astronomy."
