Reports are emerging of a pyramid shaped structure located off the coast of Terceira Island.
Portuguese news sites are reporting on the alleged discovery of a large man-made pyramid located at a depth of approximately 40m. It was said to have been discovered by Diocleciano Silva, a private yacht owner who had picked up the structure on sonar while sailing in the area.
"The pyramid is perfectly shaped and apparently oriented by the cardinal directions," Silva told a local newspaper. The structure is thought to be approximately 60m tall and has a base of around 8,000 square meters.

Details are scarce at this point however it is thought that this could be evidence that the islands were inhabited long before the arrival of the Portuguese. Archaeological evidence on Pico island is said to date back several thousand years. Rock art, megalithic structures and other signs of human activity have also been discovered across all nine islands of the Azorean archipelago.

Yesterday there was an update in this subject in the portuguese newspaper Expresso. It turns out that the Portuguese Navy did made an investigation on the subject and released the results. They also released a video with the site maps. I translated the text so that everyone could read it, here it is: Navy denies underwater pyramid in Azores An opinion of the Hydrographic Institute does not confirm the existence of an underwater pyramid off the island of Terceira, supposedly discovered by a local sailor. It is not possible to "confirm the existence of such a geometric figure with the shape and ... [More]
